with oem BBS and 245 re01r's it was very close to contact (MY05), we had to raise it up all the way, as far as it would go, and he had camber plates pretty much maxed out, and it was still to close to my liking, wider wheels with fairly equal offset and wider tires would not work. He is easily looking at a sub 40mm offset 9" wheel, then you run into the fenders.

I wouldn't worry about "close," worry about "contact."

Well, as close as this guy was, it was close enough that i would worry about "contact" with a little tire roll over. We raised his car up all the way it would go, and it was still low, pretty much, he can't go more than .5" lower than he is now, and definitely wider wheels/tires unless he runs a fairly aggressive offset.

I truthfully can't believe this, its very odd IMO.

That is strange. I can adjust the PSS-9 to be at stock ride height (probably higher too), but even lowered I don't have any contact nor any concern of contact with rolloever.

I just installed the PSS9's on my '05 wagon and I noted the following drop in wheel gap:

Stock springs:
F - 76mm gap
R - 45mm gap

Pro Drive springs:
F - 38mm gap
R - 25mm gap

PSS9
F - 25mm gap - 51mm drop over stock.
R - 38mm gap - 7mm drop over stock.

Does this sound right?

Don't measure wheel gap. This changes with tire wear and based on what kind of tires you are running at that time. Measure from the center of the wheel arch to the center of the wheel hub.

Just looking at those numbers, you could lower the rear considerably and not run into clearance issues.

Can anyone let me know if the ride height adjustment is independent of the spring pre-load adjustment? (for these PSS9's coilovers)

these come with 1.5K helper springs so I would say they maintain pre load (within the recommended height adjustment range atleast) just guessing however

The fronts have helper spring, the rears do not. So in the rear, ride height changes will effect preload.

Mine haven't come in yet but my supplier (local rally shop) said they have helper springs just not used in 04's for the rears

If you go to low, 245s with the BBSs can rub on the locking collars and springs.
MY2004 is even closer!

I guess I'll just have to raise the collars and consequently, the height of the vehicle. FYI: running factory spec tires and OEM BBS's. Will put in a call to Bilstein tomorrow to listen to their options.

I ordered the coilovers from Tirerack and this was the part number: F4-GM5-A128-H1. I ordered the -H1's because the HO's (F4-GM5-A128-H0) state that "A spacer may be needed on the rear for clearance.". There was no mention of a spacer needed for H1. Tirerack info here: Bilstein PSS9 Coil-Over Kit

Default Pete, would you considered a wheel spacer?

I use a 3mm stainless steel wheel spacer on all 4 rims. I too ran into the tight clearance as you have. The cheapest, and best option is to have your local machine shop make you custom size spacer. I don't know if there is some spacer you can buy for your needs. I run two set of 245x 40 x17 on 8,5 rim and other on the oem bbs rims. The tire is widener then 245 because they are R compounds.

Good advice, and probably the most practical solution to the problem. If they (the Billy's) didn't ride so fooking good, I'd be UBER pissed right now.
