IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | I run 245/45/17 azenis on 17x9 +38s. Last auto-x season, on HOT days at the end of really technical sections, I would loose power steering. I assumed I was boiling it. Had my first auto-x this year, and it was about 50 degrees and I was loosing power steering at the end of the run in a not so technical section. What kind of fluid is in there stock? How often should it be changed? What should I change it to? Is there a drain or do I pull the lines to drain it? Thanks a lot! Originally I thought it was heat, since it only did it on hot days, but this last time the fluid was older and it wasnt hot and it did it worse, making me believe its just fluid quality and not really heat. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2005 Trader Rating: (1) | I had the EXACT same problem at an autocross last weekend. Ambient temp was just around 70 degress with the humidity on the lower end of the scale (honestly a perfectly nice day!). 28K miles on my 05 sti, no changes have been made to the fluid from the showroom floor. Power steering held up fine for the STU class runs (there were 4 of these), but one we started our PAX indexed runs (3 of these) i would lose power steering for the last 10 seconds of my runs. Kinda of felt like the front tires went flat. I'm running the stock rubber(cold pressures 44 front 42 rear) on the oem 17" BBS wheels. The only suspension mods I have are Whiteline front and rear sways (set to full stiff) with kart boy endlinks. If anyone has done any PS cooler upgrades or mods please chime in! (with pics too lol) |

IWSTI Addict since: Feb 2005 Trader Rating: (5) | I know the 05 sti take .7 qts of fluid. I am gonna order some redline power steering today and see if it makes a difference. Ill let you know since this thread isn't much help! This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
