Default Question about lowering...

This might be a stupid question, but I have seen it on a lot of Maxima owners cars. Anyone just lower the front on the STi?

I highly doubt I'd ever do anything like that, but I was just wondering.

Short answer, no. Lowering is generally done with springs, unless you are on coilovers. When you replace the springs, its a good idea use a balanced spring rate between the front and the rear to ensure the car's handling remains balanced. When lowering, a stiffer spring rate is required to maintain the same amount or roll resistance. If you leave the rears stock, then put a stiffer lowering spring on the front, the car would become unbalanced and push (understear) worse than it already does.

Edit: Forgot to mention lowering can also be done with RCE lowering camber plates. It lowers the front by 3/8. That would be preferable to mismatched springs, but I'm guessing that you had a more drastic drop in mind.

I've got a buddy who is in Puerto Rico and he said it is all the rage. He asked why they did it and their logic was that sense the cars are AWD it would allow more AWD traction at the dragstrip.

I've done this only in time of emergency. I once had a borked from strut and bought coilovers but needed rear camber bolts because the rear springs that were sent with the coilovers were too long which gave me way too much positive camber and the rear tires would rub. So I drove for two weeks with front coilovers and stock rear struts.

My same friend who is in Puerto Rico drove around with front '04 STI struts on Tanabe GF210 springs in the front and stock '06 WRX struts and springs in the rear when we found that the lower bolt on the rear strut was put in backwards and could not be removed without the rear axles taken apart. He drove around for a week like that.
