Default Rear springs... are they binding????

ok, so the install took a few hours, had an excellent shop and every tool available to me. a brother and i took 3 hours, and that was because we were mostly goofing around with the retired military guys who run the shop located outside the military post we live by.

but...man, just one question. is the below normal? why would the spring bind like that just sitting on flat earth? what you are looking at is the rear spring with the camera just above the tire to get a look at the springs.
note i like the ride, but it sure hits the bump stops on these memphis roads.

That is how they're designed. Dead coils. They provide the same function as a tender spring on coilovers.

ok. i understand what it means to have dead coils. i am a firearm guy. which incidentally is why i asked because quality firearms don't use a dead coil design.

as long as my travel is good and the upped quality is what it has been so far, i'm all good. i can't get over the new ride feel and i know without doubt nothing went wrong with the install. i guess i was just looking for validation, heh. thanks.

I shot competitively for years and I agree the best spring designs for cars don't use dead coils either.

RCE with their hardened strut mounts.

and the more i drive, the more i love them. (that reminds me that i still need to secure stuff in the trunk to kill the clunky sounds i am getting, and yes, it is only stuff in the trunk when i'm not bottoming out, lol)

i have time tonight to search out other pics of springs installed and i would still like to see the differences. photobucket is blocked, but i'm going to end up trying to look from here at work regardless, heh.

edit: anyone know if this is not normal for springs? and i mean any?

Tanabe GF210s sit like that as well.

some discussion here:
GF210 springs way compressed??
I don't like progressive springs, why do you?

After seeing your thread, I checked mine (just installed this past weekend) and they look exactly the same. I then talked to a friend of mine who put lowering springs in his Volvo S60r, and again, same thing. I'm not claiming that this is normal, but it would seem so with all of the same observations.

I love my RCE's, so normal or not, they are doing the trick.
