Default auto x alignment w/springs, sway bars ect.

I am looking to pick up a set of Cobb lowering springs for my STi to help me out some more this year for auto x.

When the suspension gets finished, I will have Cobb springs, front and rear sway bar w/ endlinks, front and rear strut tower braces, and I will most likely be running Falkin RT-615s.

So when its all said and done I need some numbers to get the alignment done.

Also am I going to need any other parts to help me adjust the camber, ect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

I am going with camber plates up front to give me better and more reliable neg. camber numbers up front. Tried bolts and they slipped after a few weekends. Are you happy with the COBB springs for autox? Also if you are running SM I would suggest reading the rule book so you can take advantage of your class rules. (Unless this is just for fun...then just get a good autox alignment.) Good luck!

I wouldn't choose Cobb springs for autocrossing. You'll be riding on bumpstops and the car will have a real understeer problem if you try to trail brake. I'd look at Pinks, RCE's, or Prodrives.

Or Tanabe GF210's, lots of people are off their bandwagon as of late but myself and others are very happy with them for autox (they are harsh for the street).

I got my SM rule book stuff down, not going to do the max mods of SM since I still want have to DD my car

I wanted to know what some kind of camber you guys are running with springs for auto x. Looking for a little more detail on camber adjustment, what are you running?

I don't have them yet, just trying to figure out what I am going to do for sure.

Mykl, did you have Cobb springs? and where did you hear that they make the understeer worse? Just asking

I have heard good things about the pinks, never looked them up till now. Not much of a price difference.

Who else has tried the pinks or Cobb springs or Prodrive P1 springs or Tein STi STech Lowering Springs?

Looking for as much input as I can get

Thanks

Well after doing some more research, I hear that the RCE Springs are a big hit, I have been looking at all of them and the Tien S are out, as with the Prodrive P1, and the Cobb Springs since more info supports that they are too soft and drop the car a little too much. Pinks seem good, but the RCEs seem so much better for optimal auto x driving.

The only downside is I can't get them from my sponsor at my discounted rate, so I guess I will have to pay out full price for them , just the cost of winning I guess.

Still would like more input if anyone has some more

I've never had them, and I've never driven on them. My statement is born from this fact... an STi on stock springs and dampers is almost touching the bumpstops at rest. When braking or turning, it's certainly touching the bumpstops. With as much as the Cobb springs lower the front of the car, I'm almost certain that it's compressing the bumpstops a bit even at rest. This means that when you turn or brake the effective spring rate is going to go through the roof the second you attempt to maneuver or brake. If you attempt to do both at the same time the outside front tire will wash out and you'll plow.

To follow up on what Mykl said (which I agree with 100%):

To answer your question, I would go with Prodrive springs or stock springs with shortened/cut bump stops, and lower via RCE camber plates. Compliment the springs with large sways to get some roll resistance.

I'm running Tanabe GF210s, Cobb sways with adjustable mounts, and Kartboy links. My front is -.8 (maxed out) and the rear is -1.3 (maxed out). Toe is set at zero on all four corners. My next step is plates front and rear and an ALK.

That's gonna be a sweet setup but if I were you I would get Group N top's for the rear instead of plates, they just aren't necessary for the rear.

Does not matter what springs or sways you install you will only get about -.8 degrees of front camber. You need camber plates or bolts if you want more.

I will be running GF 210's (cut bumpstops), Whiteline Max-C camber plates, Whiteline 24mm bar up front, Perrin 26mm(?) Rear bar on stock rims/tires. I'll report back in a few weeks with alignment results.

The bump stops hold a lowered car up. I think if you remove that support by cutting your bump stops, you'd end up lowering the car more. Thus, you may end up with less total suspension travel than you would have on uncut bump stops- a bad thing. There's really no way to win with lowering springs on stock struts.

The 05 spec GF210s are a fairly mild drop, and I would assume they call for cutting the bumpstops in the instructions. So wouldn't the advertised drop be with the bump stops cut? Just wondering. I think they drop about 1in front and 0.5in rear. That combined with fairly agressive rates (~325/246 f/r) I would imagine that they are better than alot of springs (Cobb, Tein, Pinks) as far as riding the bump stops. Not to mention you can pick them up for <$200 shipped new!

Yup, I cut the bumpstops per instructions. I got mine for $186 shipped and used can be found for $150 or lower.
