Default Best coilovers for street/track use?

I'm looking for the lightest weight and most versatile coilovers.

I would like something with separate height and weight jacking adjustment... and preferably something with camber adjustment at the top, or should I just get the RCE front camber plates and their new rear pillowball rear camber plates?

I've heard good things about KW3 and Ohlins... comments anybody?

i don't think there are too many numbers on weight for coilovers. The KW V3's are great, if you want them though i would check out the RCE Tarmac II's (same coilover as KW's that is slightly upgraded). There's a thread that they have on here that explains everything about them. The KW's also have seperate rebound and compression adjustment if you want to get fancy.

The thing is the RCE's don't come with any top hats. You could put Cusco camber plates on front and rear, but by the time you put any top on you are going to be very close to the price of the Ohlins. I personally would love to do Ohlins Sportlines, but i really don't know enough about them to persuade to get them for one reason or another. I just want Ohlins

Yeah I keep hearing everybody mention these Ohlins like they are the king of coilovers or something

About the cusco camber plates...aren't RCE the "shizzle" when it comes to the camber plate market?

yea, but they don't make camber plates in the rear as far as i know. I'd think you would want to keep it the same front and rear. But if you only want to do the fronts then i would go with their plates.

lol, it's entirely possible. I remember myles talking about them a while ago but i havn't seen anything concrete. As much as i browse here i'm sure i could have missed it if he started a thread. The only thing to consider is price. The Cusco's are less expensive than RCE's (is price is a factor).

I have a set of our upcoming rear pillowball mounts on my car but the rear camber plates are still a ways off. I am very happy with my Ohlins Sportlines but the RCE Tarmac 2's will also be a great option. I'd be happy to talk to you about both options since I have some experience with them. I won't be in the office tomorrow but if you call, Myles, Mike, and Andrew should all be there to answer your questions. I'd also be happy to talk to you about it, PM me and I can give you my cell #.

would a mix-matched set really make a difference?

I think before i was just saying that if you wanted camber plates all around you should stick with all the same one. The other thing is differen't camber plates raise and lower the car different amounts. I'm sure you could run rce's in the front and cusco's in the rear and it might work fine, but i'm not sure. If you just want RCE's in the front and group-n's in the rear (or whatever) it would also be fine.

I am going to go with the RCE "tarmac II" coilovers, I think they are the best bang for you buck... beyond them I would have to pick zzyzx or ohlins... but the RCE coilovers seem too good and too well priced to pass up.

I already have PDE v2 front plates and group-N rear top hats (just have to trim off the rubber bit to fit on the rear coilovers).

How much track time are you planning on? Are you really sensitive about spring rate and stiffness around town?

Good luck choosing

I was planning on the Tarmac II's as well. What else would I need to install these?

You don't NEED anything else, but I would recommend Group-N tops at the very least. Ideally though you could go with the RCE camber plates up front and RCE pillowball mounts in the rear.

Ohlins Sportlines come with top hats already installed. So you can just use them.

I can't say enough good things about the KWs, they are truly awesome, Myles has the kit coming my way to convert them to the Tarmac 2 specs. I am really looking foward to trying them out. The whole gang at Racecomp has been a great help in getting our OLOA car setup for this year, we could'nt have done it without them.
