Default Ohlins Struts + RCE Springs + X-Brace=New Car!

Just installed my Ohlins struts, RCE springs, and CL X-Brace and man, what a difference! I set the struts to 3 clicks from full stiff front and 6 from full stiff rear (thanks Myles) to start with and went on a 200+ mile road trip. Talk about planted. With all other bracing (GT Spec subframe set, GT Spec tie brace, TIC cowl braces), new struts, springs, and brace, the car is so solid and confidence is off the charts!
The differences in construction of the RCE springs vs Tanabe GF210s is night and day. The RCE springs are a COMPLETELY different spring in every way (thicker coils, more coils, softer rate, easy install, outstanding quality). At slow speeds, there is more jarring over small cracks and stuff. Once under way, however, the suspension is more compliant and there is no way I can reach the limit of my car on the street. All clunking, clicking, rattling, and SNACK! are GONE! Yes! I have got in some trouble lately and am a bit paranoid about taking my car to the limit on the street so nothing to report from the edges. I will have to save it for the track! I will play with damping adjustment as time goes on and report back on those differences.

glad to hear you like the new stuff. I'm really wanting the ohlins, but for another 200 i could get the tarmac II's..... RCE has a bunch of good stuff.

I'm also pleased that your x-brace came in alright.

Yeah, I got one of the good braces and I couldn't be happier. I used a buttload of anti-sieze and man, is that stuff messy, hah!

I could feel the brace tightening into the rear of the car as I adjusted it into place. It was kinda freaky. I was hoping it wasn't going to 'splode out the sides of my car. Sure would hate to have a x-brace induced wide-body. Heh.
I can't wait to get back in town (I am at my parents in east TX) and drive around some familiar roads.

Totally agree, same experience here. On the freeway its smooth as silk. Around town, it makes me think about the Prodrives. On the backroads, it makes me think I need to be on the track.

I know those settings for the Ohlins were just a starting point but did Myles say that he recommended that for daily driving or for the track? The last I heard someone using those settings with RCE springs it was for autocrossing.

No, I'm not aware of any shock that this capibility. It does have 25 adjustment settings for rebound and bump (aka single adjustable). I believe you need to get revalved to alter this trait. Also note despite the spring rate being significanty higher than stock, the ride quality is much improved with this setup.

I dont mean to pry, but how much did all of that cost you? I know the Ohlins are ~$2k and the springs are <$500.

Hmm, I was hoping that the adjustability would let you cushion the hard impacts at lower speeds and not just offer a nice ride on the highway only...

Well, you can go softer all around, which I suspose should help. But I think that causes too much of a damper to spring rate mismatch and I don't like the feel.

I took 3 more clicks out of the front today. That is 6 from full hard both front and rear. The ride is awesome. The Ohlins really absorb the bumps. I can't wait to go, say, 10 rear and 8 front.

Anybody have more experience with the Ohlins? Suggestions?

I have one question for you, did it take the bobble head bounce out of the ride?

Thanks
