Forgot whether this had been posted, if so please forgive me and delete it.

To anyone using a CUSCO adjustable rear sway bar or their STI (wrx is perfectly fine):

Please be aware that the swaybar can interfere with the lower lateral link and BEND your endlinks. If this happens during a high speed corner it could have disasterous results, as your swaybar will bind your suspension. Luckily we found this out over a speed bump rather than a freeway on ramp or mountain road.

The problem is that the STI endlinks allow hoizontal and vertical play of the swaybar. The cusco bar has no lateral stops so the swaybar can hit the tire. That is the least of the problems. The lever arms are too short and allow the ends of the bar to "toggle"(loud clunk) to the BOTTOM of the lateral link. This effectively lets the swaybar COMPRESS your suspension on one side.

In order to run this setup safely you need endlinks w\ a SOLID bushing on one side (bottom that bolts to the lateral link), and the links also should be adjustable(WRX links will not work). As far as I know there isn't one available. Perrin has one that will be available in a few weeks. The Poltec STI links may work, but still allow too much lateral movement.

I will be working to get a solution to this problem in the next couple days.

Happy motoring,
Ashley

Does this problem ONLY affect the CUSCO Adjustables? What about the non-adjustable rear sway bar??????

Thats just it... i've read on the NASIOC side that people could have the same problem with the STOCK setup... this is definitely not good. Im buying the poltek endlinks immediately to fix this problem.

Thanks guys for the info. I am getting my CUSCO (rear and front) sways installed tomorrow so I am worried about. Either way, from what I have been hearing.... even on stock set-up, this has been occuring so its best to play it safe. Staticx313, are the polteks the best?

As ss3homer stated.. please check http://www.imprezawrxsti.com/postnuk...ewtopic&t=7215 as well... This issue is being discussed there.

... and beware than strengthening the endlinks could move the problem to other parts of the suspension... which could result in a worse damage. I don't think anyone has figured out a working solution yet.

If I were you, Vader, I would stay with the stock sway bars until the solution is found.

Vader... They have a new setup with a polyurethane bushing and collars to keep ALL movement from happening... so it will fix it... or it had better, I will do a write up... but they said it would fix it.

We have 2 sets of Poltecs out on the Cusco adjustable. Other than the first one that installed with the endlinks in the shortest position and the bar flipping when it was lowered off the jack - they have worked fine. Follow up with much updated information on the NASIOC thread referenced above. Poltec endlinks on the adjustable at the appropriate length for the leverage setting have not been having any problems.

Thanks Robert! With this in mind, I will be investing in some POLTEC endlinks just to avoid any hairy situations in the near future. Either way, I look forward to hearing about other possible solutions. Thanks.

Though we have not seen the slipping that has been reported in the NASIOC thread, PolTec also now has available ring collars for the sway bar to make slipping impossible.

PolTec end links are in stock and available for purchase with our Cusco sway bars. We have been recommending the PolTec end links with all our sway bar sales since we tested them. The ring collars can also be made available on special order.
