Default Ohlins testing.

Hey guys,

I have a new set of Ohlins Sportlines. They were purchased from Z1 Performance. These come in boxes and require some assembly. Nothing difficult. Anyway... I had been planning to do some testing on these as soon as they arrived.

My STi will be a track day only car next year. So these shocks quickly went to AMF Motosports to be evaluated and gather some data from a shock dyno.

I will be bringing the stock KYB to be evaluted and make comparison with the Ohlins. I'm really intereted to see those results. Also, I have some data of other full race shocks courtesy of AMF that I will post over the next couple of weeks.

This is really a learning opportunity for me in shock valving and spring selection.
My biggest reason for purchasing these Ohlins...

-I can have these serviced, rebuilt, revalved, change spring rates, etc without big turn around times or cost. I live 15 minutes from AMF.
-My budget only allowed for these, or I would have bought the Flag series, Moton or something crazy like that. Probably over kill for the average club racer.

I will be posting more detailed evaluation with dyno charts when I have the rest of the data. For now I just wanted to get things started with some pictures and the out of the box dyno charts.

The current chart looks like these make for and excellent Road and Track setup.

For serious track guys these can use some rebound in the front. (looks pretty good though) and both compression and rebound in the back.

The chart shows a couple of lines as we did a full clicker sweep from fully closed (stiff) to open (softer) which was about 15 clicks out. More clicks open and the difference is negligible.
We worked our way out from 0,2,4,6,8,10,12, 14, clicks.

I will install these and post back with a driving impression. I won't have a chance to drive these on the track with the current valving. I will do the best I can to push these on the New Hampshire Mountains. After I get the charts for the KYB. The Ohlins will go back to AMF to be revalved, uprate the springs and wait for the first track day of next season.

Hope this will be helpful to some of you.

Please make suggestions or constructive criticism. Like I said... This is really a learning experience for me.

Abdias

Here are the first charts with a clear picture. It's a lot easier to see the info.

Excuse my 1 year old girl. She is pretty quick.

I will add the stock STi (KYB) results here also.

Wow, thanks for getting them dyno'd. I love seeing things like this. For comparison (though it's in metric, so the units are different), here's a graph showing stock and some others:

To convert,

1000 newtons ~ 225 lbs of force
100mm ~ 4 inches

Thanks for that chart...

I hope to gather more data, including stuff contributed by other members. It really helps in making a comparison.

Is it me or can you see my charts attached?

Very nice, and a good contribution to the community as well. This is exactly the kinda tech this place needs.

Thanks

Can someone chart the koni 8611s as well? I'd do it, but it would be months down the line. Please note your spring rates.... I guess that means, this only applies to someone who did the ground control coilover conversion.

I have invited Joey from AMF to participate in this discussion. He is the expert in this. I'm just a student. I mentioned your question to him. You should receive and answer soon.

Just wanted to share, I'm not letting this thread die.

I am in Puerto Rico with my family for the Holidays.

I have been talking to Joey at AMF trying to get answers to some question I read. I still have plans to post up, as much info as I can gather, when I get back to New Hampshire.

It's just a bit difficult right now, when I'm sitting on the beach with my wife, having Pineapple & Rum drinks.

Felicidades!

Just like you, I had no idea how to translate one of those graphs. That is the main reason for me to post up this info. It forces me to do some reasearch.
