| Spec C Club | So I got my Springs installed by a local subbie owner and he thought that the black things inside the spring (Picture below) was the bumpstop and he cut 5 rings of it. ![]() Will this harm anything if cut? | Spec C Club | Yeah, I am talking about the dust cover .. He thought that was the bumpstop.. Lets say there was dust build up somewhere, where the dust cover would be, couldn't that build up and become a problem with maybe jamming or something like that? |

If you don't replace the dust covers you are at risk of getting dust or sand inside the strut causing clunk or wear. |

| Amateur STI Driver | Hahaha...sorry to laugh, but that's pretty funny. Anywho, the struts might die a little young without the dust covers fully in place, since more dirt has the possibility of getting to the strut shaft, but you should be okay. However, you STILL need to get into the strut (via the bottom nut), take it apart, and shorten the bumpstop. You also might consider finding a new suspension installer, but that's just my 2 cent opinion. |

| Spec C Club | Yeah, that's true. The price sounded good .. 50 for an install whereas most places wanted 130. All you really need are 12s, 19s, and spring compressors .. I thought that he knew what he was doing becuase he told me that he's done his before .. -_- Also, he's going to Arizona to do some mechanic/engineering school .. He's white .. lol So we'll use Smith. Well at least I know the problem, thanks! |

Or leave them off and pay triple when the struts wear out prematurely. Kinda sad and funny at the same time.....some people should stay away from working on cars. Or at least search and research before doing the work. Good luck! and stay away from those shade trees! | |

| Spec C Club | If I don't cut the bump stop/ Is it okay if I leave it on for about 3-4 days before cutting them? This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
