Default Springs of 05 STI

The reason I want springs is mainly for performance. I really dont care if it lowers the car but its an added bonus if the car sits nice and even. My three choices are Race Comp Engineering (RCE), Swift, and Whiteline. I searched on the RCE's and they sound very promising with the factor of now adding too much stress on the stock struts that they will wear out prematurely. They are also 25% stiffer than jdm pinks, etc. etc. I know people who track with swifts and they highly recommend them. They seem like a very good performance spring. The Whitelines I'm considering because the only suspension mods i have so far is Whiteline sway bars (rear 24-26mm, front 27-29mm), so I figured the Whiteline springs would complement my current sway bars. Which ones should I get?? Anyone have personal experiences with the springs from a performance level?

After owning Swifts for the past...how many months(I forget), I have to say go for the RCEs.

It just makes sense that a stiffer spring like the RCEs would do a better job of cutting down on oscillation and speed of the strut during rebound that with weaker springs would give the car a bouncy ride.

Do you guys know the spring rates for the RCE's and Swifts'?

Even though RCE states:
The highly anticipated Super Sport Street/Track Springs, an OEM replacement spring for 2004-2007 Subaru WRX STi from Racecomp Engineering. Designed for use with standard STi inverted struts or Ohlins Fixed Perch Replacement Struts, these springs are intended for both the daily driven street driver as well as the autocross and track day weekend warrior. Finally, after years of being the authority on Subaru suspension options for everyone from the daily driver to the professional racer, Racecomp Engineering can now provide their own solution to owners looking for the ultimate OEM replacement spring for their Subaru Impreza WRX STi. Using the very popular JDM STi springs that we brought to the U.S. market in mid 2003 as the benchmark, Racecomp focused on improving on track and autocross performance, while maintaining acceptable ride quality. Extensive research, design, and testing was performed to develop a completely new spring unlike anything currently available. With springs rates increased approximately 25% stiffer then the popular JDM Pink Springs, the springs are perfect for those with wider tires worried about rubbing, as well those looking for a little more rear spring rate to promote a more neutral handling characteristic. Much care was taken not to exceed the limits of the stock struts. The mildly progressive design and spring rates properly matched with the dampers ensure that ride quality is not diminished over stock. The car is lowered 20mm in the rear and 23mm in the front for an even look.

I'm still worry about the RCE's being too stiff for the stock struts

Swifts are 251F/223R

RCE's are ~25% stiffer than JDM Pinks which are 257F/217R

I won't post any numbers for the RCE because I don't know the exact numbers, but I have an idea of the range.

I've owned the Swifts for awhile now. They are bouncy when the strut is on the rebound stroke. They are mushy and they roll to an extent once you really push them. I can't speak for the longetivity of the RCE springs on the stock struts, but its apparent to me that the struts need stiffer spring rates to better control the strut speed.

I think the rear rates were also increased more than the front rates to help with understeer. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

The rear rates are still lower than the fronts (again going by the ~25%), but its higher in the rear than the pinks or swifts, etc.

As far as daily driving the RCE's are the best. I've driven back to back the RCE and Pinks. The Pinks are firmer than stock but were still pretty bouncy. The RCE were the opposite. they almost feel softer. I don't mean that in a bad way, just that driving over the same road the RCE springs just "glided" over the same bumps that with the Pinks boumced you around pretty good. Take that as the progressive nature of the springs. I haven't had a chance to track the cars with yet since P(ortland)IR is shut down for the winter, so I can't really comment on that. But driven agressively on a winter set-up they do feel stiffer than the stock springs. I've got the same sways as you.

Hope that helps a little.

i say you will like swaybars a lot, I recommend the RCE spring, I wouldnt worry too much about premature strut wear...
