Just a thought, but shouldn't the driver be sitting in the car while this is going on?!

Not really. The purpose of adjusting corner weights is to get the cross-weighting correct. Your left to right weighting is not alterable as a whole, and with the driver position being nearly in the middle from front to rear, the effect on cross-weighting is next to nil.

What snax mentioned is essentially correct. We do corner weighing with the driver and normally with 1/2 tank of gas. However, if really get the cross weights right, once the driver is out of the car, the percentage does not change even though weight might shift around. That is what happened to both of the cars we did the corner balancing.

This does not happen always but most of the time
