The material science answer is that the elastic modulus (basically the stiffness of a material) is determined by the forces between the individual molecules of the material. Since all steels are predominantly iron, they have the same elastic modulus, IIRC, 200 GPa. The trace elements, chromium, molybdenum, vanadium, etc. affect other properties like yeild and tensile strength, resistance to corrosion etc. Hey, I remembered something from 6 years in Engineering school! | |
