Just a wild guess, but that might have been the tools hitting the spare. I put some foam on mine and bungee'd them to the spare so they don't do that. It's not a happy sound.

Gave up my MB 300E and BMW K1200 for the STi to commute and have fun with. No regrets here, just more smiles. The ride is razor sharp, and tight, much like most BMW cars but the power to weight and 4 WD make it an exciting drive every day.

Now I look forward to going to work and leaving for that matter...
