So we installed a set of AST Sportline 2' coilovers on our Subie and we are curious if anyone out there is running them AND what ride heighth you personally recommend, ie the 'Sweet Spot'. I am trying to keep the car as close to stock or even a bit higher..gasp The good reason for this is where we live> A stone' throw (across the avenue) from SUGAR BOWL ski mountain in California. Some of you out there know that this is on TOP of Donner Summitt: 7400 ft and much snow. One of the snowiest spots on the planet earth. SO right now we want to set up the car for WINTER...of course in SUMMER the car will come back down. Tommorow the car goes for alignment and will have 0 TOE, 2.5 front camber, 1.5 rear camber. thanks Danielle

Yep, I am all too familiar with Tahoe, Sugar Bowl, Reno, North Star, Squaw Valley, etc...In fact, I am coming up in a few weeks. I cannot wait!!!! You guys seeing any snow yet? It is raining like crazy here out by the coast, so I suspect you guys are getting some snow.

Anyways, on to your questions. I had the Sportline II's and I would advise you to not go low; especially in the rear! So to stay near stock height will work well. I found that if you put the front at 14.2" in front from hub to fender, it worked well. For the rear stay at; or above 13.5!! Hub to fender.

That ought to be good. You could probably actually run higher if you wanted to since the snow. But I found those heights to work well with the Sportline II's.

Snow? there was some....but then it RAINED and RAINED then it RAINED again so it's all gone. SO I just set the ride height at stock>a little higher than you suggested but close...yes we live in what the locals call the 'Hell Zone'. Example: when we first moved into this house last May there was still 10 ft of snow in the yard. So much so we had to wait 3 weeks for it to melt and then move our things in! So for now it's stock ride height for snow and 1.5 rear camber. 2.5 front camber: Cusco 'Plates at all four corners. So Bay rain what camber #'s did you get when you first installed them? danielle

Huh, that's funny. I would have thought that it would be snowing now. The weather this year has been odd. Not much rain until the past week. I'm sure there will be some snow in a few weeks or a month from now. Haha, that is pretty crazy, that much snow in May. Man, I miss Tahoe. I used to go up all the time. I haven't been there in a couple years. I'm pretty excited to get back up there this winter. Go snowboarding and have some fun in the STi.

Stock ride height will work just fine, I'd imagine.

Honestly, I can't remember exactly. I do remember being able to get a lot out of them, however. Camber was never an issue with the AST's, that much I do know. Especially in the rear and I had Grp. N tops, not camber plates. I'd imagine you will not have any problems achieving those camber numbers.

Exactly the #'s they used today for my alignment...I backed off 1/2 of a degree( was planning for 2.5) and went with 2 degrees camber in the front. Rear was set at 1.5 and TOE '0'. Last night we set the ride height at stock + 1/4"..basically stock. For dampening just as you have suggested 7>F and 6>R. These AST's are amazingly quiet for an inverted CO'...not at all stictiony'. However I don't know what springs are in this particular set but they are waaaaaaay stiff Even at 100 every bump or undulation in the road upset the car..crazy firm and my head is still vibrating from the 100 mile round trip to the alignment shop. We pogo'd and hippy hopped all the way and some of the freeway was butter smooth>new black top...hippity hop hippity hop down the bunny trail . I bought them off of NASIOC for a decent price and was told quote: these are the most comfortable coilovers I've ever driven..unquote. uhhhh NOT. With only supposedly 6000 miles on them one would think they'd be in decent condition. I'm going to post this on that SCOOBY English site...those guys love these things and know ALL about them. Maybe I'll get an answer otherwise there G O N E gone,

Springs

Yep those are the spring #'s I have except the helper springs are compressed as the car sits. There is literally no travel as you look at the springs. It's like driving a low rider with no air in the system> BUMPSTOP CITY If I cant' do something about this my next post will be: AST Sportline 2's For Sale

That is the exact reason I got rid of mine and bought the V3's...

I had the same springs as you do. Needless to say, I know exactly what you are talking about...Call Myles at Racecomp and see if he can get you a better spring rate or if he has any suggestions. I ended up just getting rid of mine.
