Default KW V3's or RCE's with Ohlin struts?

I know there has been a lot talk about the two but what would be a better track set up. They are about the same price so I think they might make a good comparison. I am mostly concerned with which set up allows for the most tire width. Thanks in advance.

The KW's will definitely be a better track setup. They give you more adjustability, higher spring rates, the ability to corner balance, etc. However, the Ohlins w/ RCE's will be very nice for just casual track days and they will allow more clearance for wide tires. Plus the Ohlins/RCE will be a bit more comfortable for daily driving.

Just to add to the confusion/choices....be sure to check out the Racecomp Engineering Tarmac 2 coilovers, just released.

Hey Dan, next year you're coming to SEMA, we all decided.

^^Word, I also came to a similar conclusion. I spent last week being jealous looking at pics of the show.

How would you expect the RCE coilovers to be compared to the KW's as far as tire clearance?

Thanks

Well the RCE coilovers are built by KW so tire clearance should be the same.

Sorry for all the questions but there is a member here running Tein springs with 18x8.5 Advans +45 offset with 265/35/18 tires and it looks great. Do you think this can be done? If not what size wheel and tire set up in an 18" would be suitable? Lastly can the RCE non lowering camber plates be used with your new coilovers that I am currently running with your springs?

Thanks

Well if it's already being done then yes it can be done I don't really think that extra little bit of tire width is a necessity for street driving but it does look good. Those tires will almost definitely not fit with coilovers but with a strut/spring setup it should. And yes, the RCE plates can be used with almost any strut/coilover.

I have the exact same problem except for that the RCE springs literally just arrived at my door. So do I keep the springs and buy some ohlins or do I sell them and buy the new RCE coilovers? I autocross often and want to start to track the car. I drive on rough roads and also might want to think about rally-xing. Could either of those setups handle a rally-x course?

I'm also just getting started and want to work more on my driving than suspension setups. COuld the coilovers ever be "Set it and forget it?"

I'm having a very hard time deciding. I just don't want to get the ohlins and wish that I could get more performance and I don't want to buy coilovers and make my girlfriend unwilling to ride with me.

Now that I have my coilovers mostly dialed in they're as close to "set it and forget it" as any setup is. I might make a tweak here and there, but once you get things setup you won't have to think much about it and will be able to focus primarily on your driving.

If you're going to spend a fair amount of time autocrossing or doing track days, I think coilovers are the way to go.

I guess it depends on what you value more. If I had something like a Legacy I'd probably consider Ohlins dampers as a less focused, but still great performing option.

I think the Ohlins would really surprise you with our springs. MAIN REASON?...the Ohlins leave off where the stock struts ability ends,.with that said the OHLINS/ RCE springs is better than MOST realize. Like the M6 that was flogging around at BMW Performance Center with michilin pilot sport cups....best of both worlds.

Again, just because we offer coilovers now, we will continue to steer you the direction that works best. Granted, both are pricey. Bargain basement set up..RCE springs and Whiteline sway bars and get a TON of track time.
