Adam did help but HKS gave him a hard time Dave Brown tried to help too still took 7 months. Luckily I sent HKS a email and got a name after just 1 month with them on. So there was proof that they failed after 1 month.
Not trying to be a jerk know it all, i just had experiences. This Forum is about sharing knowledge and experiences.

Adam I guess you did forget about these coilovers failing and you trying to send them back for me. Remember dave Brown calling you on it?
to be honest, no I don't remember at all

Paul Nieto is my name. You can ask Dave Brown on it. HKS Coilover problem, warranty repair. They had it for 7 months. All 4 needed rebuild after 6 months. Anyway i just traded the 02 for a 5000 mile 05 STI, and i totally love it.
I've got no problem at all with you Adam or Dave Brown who i bought the coilovers from.(Metric bought them from Z1) It was the lousy service i got from HKS which shocked me cause they make great products. Except these coilover hypermax kits. You guys tried your best to help and i did appreciate it at the time.

I really believe you get what you pay for with coilovers. That being said there are ALWAYS exceptions to this rule. A lot of the Evo guys have had great success with Megan Racing coilovers at $1000 a set. MANY of the JDM coilovers use the exact same shock bodies, springs, and other various parts. The only difference besides colors is spring rates and valving, which is the most important difference. That being said, some companies may use similar parts to other companies' coilovers, but use cheaper parts for internals and can lead to failure/rebuild.

One key to think about is longevity and customer service. For the STi my first choice was and still is KW V3s. From there price becomes such a factor. For the budget-minded person I'd check out the Megan Racing coilovers too.

This threads got a ton of useful infromation ! Id also like to know how the BC Racing coilovers are like. I have them on my 06 STI and they feel pretty good but i would like some technical information (like maybe from someone like Z1). The dampening does feel a bit stiff, but maybe its because i have so many suspension mods done to the car (24mm adjustable front and rear sways, Whiteline ALK, rear subframe and diff bushings). Id really like to learn more about choosing the right coilover...

Here's a great thread for you to read:

Damper tuning and dyno graph discussion

I *think* I have a good understanding of what that BC dyno is telling us, but I'll wait for stretch's analysis to see if I'm correct.

For the record, I have been running Tein Flex coilovers for 16K miles and they are just fine. 3 track days, many many twisty roads and I have not had to rebuild them once. I don't plan to either until they make a lot of noise or leak or begin to bounce due to a blown strut.

I would say, save a little money and get a coilovers like the RCE T2's, Ohlins Sportlines, or TiC's new coilovers (which should be out soon). You'll be happy you ponied up the extra cash to get a coilover that's excellent on the track as well as the street.

The information received on this thread was very helpful. I was on the fence between the Ohlins fixed perched and the RCE Tarmac IIs. My car is a daily driver hauling wife and two kids and also compete in the STU class at autocross and was looking for that balance between the two. Now I am kinda leaning towards the RCE set up with the correpsonding camber plates. My car is an 04 with stock struts and Prodrive springs and I liked the set up for DD with no complaints from the wife. But unfortunately, the dreaded strut clunk is more apparent than ever so change is a necessity.

the main question for you is, is your car a daily driver that you autox, or an autox car that you happen to daily drive.

if it is a daily driver first, I'd go with a quality fixed perch and some proper springs.
