You aren't changing the bushing, mounting point to the chassis and it would be virtually undetectable.

Wouldn't it put a bigger load on both front and rear control arm bushings?

Or is there enough mounting play on the rear mount to get it to line up freely?

technically this should also give some more negative camber since the arm gets pushed out alittle.

I have been told that if you have adjustable top camber plates, you can get more caster by swapping the left and right.

Anyone heard of this?

yup. this is a mod for tons of cars. My friend did this on his BMW for retarded caster and more camber (think -4 or more).

i wonder if it puts a lot more stress on the suspension.

Yeah, but I got less than a quarter of a degree of additional caster.

What are the torque specs for the 2 bolts that hold the black pin onto the control arm.

I was just about to do this mod. I jave searched, but the only torque specs I have found on front suspension are for Wrx's, and they do not have these 2 bolts.

Ok so just to confirm...

1. Is an alignment necessary or just "optimal" after doing this mod?
2. Has anybody done this mod in ADDITION to an ALK?

Yes. An alignment is necessary.

it's on my list, but I'm still gathering parts for this season's suspension setup.

I've been researching ALK... seems like Whiteline, GTspec, and Perrin are the 3... with Whiteline being the original.... I can't stand that eye piercing yellow!!! They should come out with a more conservating color or something... good thing it's at least in a spot where we can't see it unless working on the car.

So in theory, do you think this free castor mod would work even with an aftermarket ALK for even MORE castor? I noticed the Whiteline bushing is ALREADY offset in the middle... so this would push it out even FURTHER... I wonder if the other connection point of the A arm will have enough play to allow this.

Pep Boys has an entire section dedicated to custom colorizing your hideous colored ALK .

I've been wondering the same thing- if the other bushing has enough play in it to allow that much extra caster. With the "free caster mod" and an ALK, that's really pulling that other bushing away from being parallel to the axis it's rotating on. That would lead to binding and wear, although I don't know if it'd become problematic. Can anyone comment?

It's little enough to be a non-issue.
