Default RE: Richmond Va whats up?

I'm looking for the best alk.

I'm considering whiteline or perrin.

Does anyone know which one is better in terms of performance and build quality.

does an alk really make a noticeable difference? or at least enough to justify spending close to $200?

Well I just received my Whiteline kit but have yet to install it, and I was surprised at how many other parts come with the main bushings. Can anybody confirm if the other kits include spacers and bolts to offset the U-brace like the Whiteline kit?

I am now considering waiting till I can afford the 14 pt GT-spec brace kit before installing the ALK, so I don't have to mess with the U-brace twice.

there are spacers and wutnot that are needed to put the subframe back in place...due to the placement of the ALK, the subframe would hit it and thus, the need for those thick washers....

Default This is BAD !

Some people have had fitment issues with the Perrin kit. Supposedly Perrin is working on the issues. I have no personal experience with the Perrin kit but I thought I would pass this on, for what it's worth. I have heard no complants about the Whiteline kit.

Default RE: What would my stock springs and struts be worth?

Thanks for the response. I currently have Hotchkis rear sway bar and Praxis suspension. I'm not sure if I need the alk, but I was looking for something to keep the front more planted during hard excelleration.

Nice synopsis nhluhr. Thanks!

I assumed the spacers were probably included for the reasons you mentioned. I thought it was worth noting that these kits include more than the pictures imply and are not a simple 2 part swap like I had assumed. It's no big deal to me really, it just means that what I had planned to do in 30 minutes or so could take a bit longer.

Default RE: Sorry, one more clutch question

seems funny to me that the ALK defeats anti-lift and anti-dive and then most people go to extra trouble with stiffer springs and more aggressive dampers to eliminate dive and lift.

i understand the theory...just seems strange.

i recently asked around about the various anti lift kits, before ordering one. and this is the answer that made me go for the whiteline kit (haven't received my order yet, so i can't comment on how it feels)

All the parts out there that are similar to what the
Whiteline ALK's. However the Whiteline ALKs gives the most caster.

Regarding installing the ALK with the subframe, I have recently ordered a GTSpec kit (I prefer the rubber bushing) and I will be attempting to install it WITHOUT the subframe spacers. I am pretty sure, after looking at the installed pic in the pdf I linked, that I can squeeze it in there with some "adaptive hammering" of the subframe to make room. I don't want to space the frame down because that means the 05STi underbody aero cladding will not clip onto the rear of the subframe properly.

The spacing of the subframe is done for two reasons:
-to allow room for the control arm to move down without hitting it (Bigger problem for the bulky boxed steel arms of the WRX)
-to allow space for the ALK to sit lower than the stock part

I am pretty sure with a mini sledge hammer, I can overcome both of these issues.

Thanks for the write up Nhluhr. I just installed today, not too bad, just time consuming. As you probably found out, the spacers were barely an issue. The only thing I could not put back was one of the plastic push in buttons in the back on each side & it really did not need it to be secure anyway.
I have not pushed the car hard enough to notice that much of a difference yet.
It does not seem that the alignment is out very much if at all by look & feel,
do you know what & how much it throws off the alignment?

The one thing I was really looking forward to trying is to see if I could hammer a 'dent' into the u-shaped subframe to make room around the ALK instead of using the handful of spacers. This way, everything still fits like stock.

Did it look like it would be feasible to do this?

Suks bout the GT Specs. All the vendors out there, someones gotta have em.
I tried fitting it back in place with the white lines installed just to see how much I would have to bang it in, it could probably be done but not without compromising the integrity of the subframe.
Like I said b/f, the spacers were barely an issue at all fitting everything back anyway, i'm sure i could even get the last button in just drilling a new hole.
