| Lurker | They actually can be cut down. There is a nut at the very bottom of the strut. Take it off. Pull on the top part, gently, so as not to damage the seal and the inverted monotube will come out of the top. Keep everthing really clean - the bump stop is the tan rubbery thing at the bottom of the shaft. You can take it on and off with a bit of effort and a clean rag. Cut to lenght as recommended and reassemble. This was what I had to do for the Prodrive springs, although they gave you a new set of bump stops instead of having to cut them. I believe you can order different sizes from somewhere (a quick search will help you out) if you don't want to cut your OEM's. Hope this helps. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | ok i just put the springs in and tightened everything....DO I REALLY NEED TO CUT THE BUMP STOPS?!!!? i really do not want to go through all this freakin hassle if i really dont have to cut them....anyone have input on why or why not these have to be cut? |

| Lurker | They have to be cut because since you "lowered" the car, there is less travel in the strut. It is highly recommended that you either cut the bump stop or replace them with shorter ones to increase the strut travel. If you are not going to do any "spirited" driving, and don't mind hitting the bump stops (very infrequently) when you go over, say a speed bump, (at a fairly good speed) then you can probably do without cutting/replacing them. Hope this helps. |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2003 Trader Rating: (3) | In case anyone is wondering about different springs, I didn't cut the bumpstops on my struts with the Eibach prokits and I have never hit the bumpstops even over heavy speedbumps and through a road rally and autoX. |

IWSTI Addict since: Sep 2003 Trader Rating: (0) | ok i've been driving the car with the teins in for 2 days and i havent hit the bumpstops yet (or atleast i think i havnent). Handling wise, the car feels alot sharper to me. There is definatly less understeer from the stock springs. The springs feel a bit softer (even though it was rated harder than stocks) but the handling has been improved noticably. Im very happy with my springs but not happy about forgetting to cut the friggin bumpstops. It hasnt given me any problems yet and i dont know of any problems IT WOULD give me but as of now im just gonna keep them uncut. i'll post pics up tommarow... |
