Default 07 Limited STI struts on 06 STI

Just to let you all know this is not another "will it fit" post but rather "How the F am I supposed to get this biznatch on?!" post.

Here's the dilemma: I just installed JDM Pinks on 07 struts and when I went to put on the front driver's the strut just seems too long to fit. I can't get it up and past the cv boot so I can bolt it up. Last time I did this with my 06 strut I tore a boot and I do not want to do that again. What's weird is I've done this 5 other times before and had NO troubles whatsoever. Everything went in smoothly. So what am I doing wrong? Have I missed a step or secret technique? I've got both fronts jacked up too and the rears on the ground. To make things more frustrating my BC coilover went back on without a hitch (those are what I am planning on replacing).

Please help.

Thanks.

Have you disconnected the sway? That should give you more room to work with.

Hmmm, no I have not. Will that allow the halfshaft to hang lower? If so then you are my new hero. Definitely will try that out when I attempt it again. I'm open to more suggestions. Thanks.

It helps to disconnect the sway but first try getting someone else to push down on the hub while you try to maneuver the strut assembly into place.

I've done it half a dozen times and sometimes I seem to angle it just right and it slips right in, other times it just won't go. As mentioned, disconnecting the sway will allow you to push down the hub much easier.

If you are working on the front, make sure you have the left and right side jacked up at hte same time. Otherwise you will have to disconnect the sway. If you jack of the entire end of the car, you will not have to disconnect the sway.

Drop the sway bar. I ripped a cv boot removing my front strut assembly because of the sway being on. Your A arm will drop 3 inches when you unhook the endlinks. Be ready and watch your fingers.

Do you have the wheel off the front passenger side? This happened to a buddy of mine and his hand actually got his hand caught between the strut and the control arm because of the counter weight

Yeah, I've got the whole front end jacked up. As for pushing down a little harder, I did that a little too hard last time and my halfshaft actually slipped out of the tranny and leaked a good amount of tranny fluid. Guess I don't know my own strength. I think I'll try disconnecting the swaybar. Seems to be the easiest solution. Can I disconnect it before I jack the wheels completely off the ground without hurting anything? Smashed hands is not something I look forward to. Thanks guys.

yeah u can disconnect the sway bars on the ground but I dont see why you would wanna do it that way its so much easier when the wheels r off. If you have trouble getting the bolt out of the sway bar then just drive it out with a ratchet.

The control arm may or may not drop it depends on your transverse link bushing and if you have alk's it maybe stiffer for the control arm to move. dont come down with all your monkey might on the hub, I am 150lbs only and I can move the hub with race alks by hand...do it by feel once u get it going it will move as long as u keep steady pressure on it (not heavy, steady)

Maybe try a prybar to pry down slightly on the control arm.

Good luck
