Default TiC Tok Suspension Kit

About 2 weeks ago my right rear strut started knocking. 2004 STi with 86000km.

I now want to invest in a new suspension kit for my car. My car is a daily driver, and due to price and comfort reasons, I do not want Coilovers.

After a significant amount of research, i stumbled accross this kit.

TiC Tok suspension package Turn In Concepts

I want to know if this kit if best suited for my application? (daily driver with weekend track days).

Also, whats the deal with these Rear Tophat Spacers for 04 fitments?

Can anyone suggest something better for me? That is relativley inexpensive.

Has anyone dealt with this kit specifically?

Why do you not want coilovers? You mention your car is a daily driver with weekend track days - well there are streetable coilover options available out there, that are many times better than your average spring and shock combo. I would highly recommend going with coilovers over aftermarket springs/shocks.

to tell the truth, ive heard the complete opposite from several reputable sources. Coilovers are harsh and expensive. I am not a track demon, therefore dont require a race setup. And ride height adjustability is not a must for me either.

can you prove your previous statement about some street designed coilovers being better than spring and strut combos? were lookin at under 1500$ here. The coil overs i wanted are almost 3000$...lol RCE T2's.

ive heard several positive remarks about people using KYB AGX and GR2's, and Ohlin's fixed perch setup.

but not very much about this Tokico setup...

I see nothing wrong with the TiC package, and if that's in your price range, go for it.

However, I will say there are good coilover options for a daily driver. My car sees a track maybe 5 times a year, so it's more than 99% daily driver. I have the TiC SST coilovers and the car rides and drives WAY better than stock. They're a little more than your budget, but if I were you, I'd save up a bit longer to get them.

But that's me. You do what you think is best. Again, the TiC Tok package looks pretty bloody nice for the price.

I've heard that those Tokico's are nice for the price. The only reason the spacers are necessary is because the struts are designed for the 02-03 cars, but I wouldn't worry about the spacers causing any issues. The best thing you can do is call up TiC and discuss what you want and he will suggest your best options.

Coilovers can be MORE comfortable if you lower your car since they optimize the suspension travel for a lowered car.

You can get the same spring and damper rates. Really, there isn't anything at all different with coilover dampers except for length and the threaded lower spring perch.

In the case of some Koni-based coilovers, the valving is identical to the WRX Koni struts. So, clearly, one cannot be harsher than the other!

The reputation of coilovers being harsh comes from the variety of track setups out there running high spring and damper rates. Get coilovers designed with ride quality in mind and you will get something that matches or exceeds a strut/spring combo.

But anyway, you having a 2004, I think the Tik Tok package will serve you well too.

For the money, this package is hard to beat IMO. Coilovers that ride this well are not this cheap.

Whoever told you that coilovers are harsh and expensive is no a reputable source. If you want good coilover then you might have to pay, but if you go with someline like the TiC SST's they should be as comfortable as stock but give you much more performance.

Do you really want coilovers though? It sounds like you might just be better off with the TiC spring and strut package. With coilovers you really need to get them aligned and corner balanced to get the best result and then rebuilt after a while. If you're OK doing that then go for it, because they will give you more performance. But i think the comfort and performance with the TiC spring/strut package will be pretty good. You'll have to ask them though.

id rather not get coilovers... TiC SST's are kinda out of my price range...

i was under the assumption that coilovers spring rates are generally stiffer than struts. therefore being a rougher ride.
im sure that a softer rate on coilvers could give similar results but like i said, i dont want coilovers.

ive spoken with TiC and have decided to with this kit.
Only this holding me back is my buddy Ben at the local tuner shop. he said he'd do some research of his own to help me out. so im waiting to here from him before i order anything.

generally the spring rates on coilovers are higher than springs that are used with struts. The thing is, the dampening of the coilover's shocks are set specifically to be used with it's set of springs. That means that a coilover can have a set of springs and shocks that are set up to be comfortable but still give very good performance. Many coilovers have a harsh ride because they are built with motorsports in mind, so ride comfort isn't a big concern. When coilovers are built with comfort in mind, they can be very comfortable.

I've the D-Specs on stock USDM STi springs as part of my setup. It's very, very good. Very livable as a daily driver, very good offroad, very good on fast tarmac. It's also very cheap. If you're not willing to spend more than 2,000 on coliovers, go with the TiC Tok.

BTW, Draco-REX also has this setup on his WRX, you can get another opinion from him.

thank you for sharing you experience with them.
i do believe im going to go with this kit, however, for my 04, theres this special spacer that no one here seems to know about. i want to make sure that the shop i will deal with, knows about this spacer... and can gurantee installing with be a breeze..
