Default What happens when Tom from Kartboy, Clint & Tony of TIC, and Myles from RCE ......

Well today I drove about 3.5 hrs in the Boxster thru 101 degree Virginia humidity to the Perry Subaru meet in Norfolk !! WHY?....well its not ofter that you see West coast legend/vendor Tom from Kartboy on the east coast let alone TIC's mid west suspension brainchild(s) Clint and Tony all assembled on one lot for a very normal "meet" !! I should also mention one of the founding fathers of JDM importing,Dan from MACH V motorsports was also in attendance with family in tow !! Ken Koz aka WRXBRAKES/Rotordude was also there to round out the star studded cast of Subaru enthusiast/vendors.

It wasnt a easy trip for me as I had a good amount of resistance from the wife about driving 8 hrs round trip and burning gas and unnecc wear and tear on the car....but since I gave up my STI so she could get the Boxster and since I pay for the gas and the maintenance in the end....I was "released" so I could attend the meet.

All this started about 4 years ago when Ron ( Unabomber) asked me to attend. I said no because it was too far. 2005, he asked me again. I said no, because I had a NASA race. 2006, I couldnt because I attended the 24hrs of LeMans, and 2007 I said no because I was working for BMW as a driver for the 135 launch in Miami. So 2008 Ron asked me knowing I would say no and or produce another seemingly good excuse and I said YESSS !!

Little did I know the battle it would create in the household with gas prices being 4.41 for super by the time the meet happened.

All in all I am glad I made it. I got to meet Tony and Clint and Tom from KB and a few clients who are Beta testers for bars and springs. As always its nice to put faces to names and screen names to faces etc !!

And since I was the last person to leave, I had the priveledge of almost getting blocked in on the Perry lot too !!./..lol....Luckily there was one employee left who moved the final car or I would be drinking a beer with Tom who flight isnt until tomorrow !!

Well thats it.....just a small post about today. There was a special feeling though,.........standing there with many of the founding fathers and super enthusiast of the world of suspension and brakes all assembled outside on a 101 degree day sweating and laughing, and talking cars, suspension and driving. Its not often this happens and I am glad I was apart of it.

What happens is wheelings and dealings about what's coming up, what's going out, what direction to go in, and what's really cool about some of the newer setups.

It was very cool to faces and actually shake the hand of the folks I talk to on the phone all the time. Myles, please tell your wife that I really really appreciate letting you go.

I can also state that the 08 STi needs the headlights adjusted for better throw. I only felt comfortable peaking at 80 on the curves of the mountains due to lack of vision. What was nice though was the .5 sustained Gs at 80 on the mountain roads.

(oh, and we didn't get in until 3am so if we're a bit off more than usual today then we're sorry in advance).

+1

many years and thousands of miles in the desert west of the US (mostly on motorcycles riding endurance events) had me see that the first time i drove in the dark with the new 08.

nothing worse than taking a corner into blackness.

adjusting the lights so they throw "standard height" when the wheel is set at "2" gave me a good base line height but also lets me throw them higher when out on the open rode (and lower when i town).
