Default Kw 1

With my bilstein fiasco past me, im on the search again for some coilovers . My friend has a set of KW 1 never used for 900 bucks . I just looking for some feed back other than KW liteature on these . Im looking for a smooth ride with a european feel and a little added performance to it . Do these deleiver or should I pass . I know that they are not adjustable other than Height but thats not a big deal if they are a comfortable sporty ride .

They're great, but there is no 2006 STi fitment for them unfortunately.

That's what I've always thought too, but then I saw this listing tonight:
Z-1 Performance Automotive Services Inc. - KW Coilovers

Well we are working on a application for the 05-07 STi..so gives us a call. Our kit uses 400/340 rates linear front and rear. This is available within a week, so let us know.

Hello Myles,

Based on what I read on Z1s site surprised me a bit. Is it true that the standard 2004 STi fitment KW V1 (off the shelf not the T2s) have 340lbs front with a progressive rear? I thought it was 400lbs (7K instead of 6K springs). Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Lutfy

PS: I see the new RCE development and product lauches, cannot thank you enough for all the effort which YOU and your team has been putting in. Bless you!

thanks for the kind words and yes you are correct. KW V1's use 340 front and a pregressive rear that is rated at like 230lbs.......( the off the shelf V3 uses a 340 front and the same 230 progressive rear) This is done to retain alot of comfort yet still offer the 2 way adjustability.

I wished I went with the T2s from you guys to begin with I got the standard off the shelf KW V3s and am dealing with softer spring rate gremlins now. In the end, I have spent more money and have dealt with more headache.

Oh well... hopefully someone would learn from my mistakes and purchases from a vendor who not only provides amazing customer service but has data/research to prove their claims.

This looks like a ubber way to deal with your suspension at a reasonable price, not many options out there . So buy next week you guys will have a application for the 05-07 . So what will be the overall impression of these coilovers that you guys rework for the 05-07 .

myles I am the one who talked to you on the phone yesterday, you know the guy who did the 360 on the curve . LOL thanks for the driving tips . After talking to the wife about the ohlins I kind of got ambushed and my project on the suspension kind of got downsized do to the money I spent on my tubro swap . According to the minister of finance (the wife) my target is no more than 1600 . That kind of puts me down into Tein, HR and KW1s . I know that KW is a awesome company so I feel even if its thier bottom tier Coilover as long as its the feel Im looking for Ill be all right . Id rather have a non-adjustable quality coilover than a 32 way dap from K-sport . If you could give me feedback I would appreciate it .

TiC SST/AST (depending on your application)
RCE Tarmac II (with whatever spring rates make you happy)

Srsly. Either or. Neither is the most or least expensive, but both were developed from within the community by trusted vendors.

No worries, I understand the Minister of Finance issues.

Call me later today if you get a chance and lets talk about time frame.

On another topic since I am talking about it........( to all of you reading)..

Because KW is raising our prices as oj June 1st..our prices will go up a "hair" on the T2's and what will be called the Tzero( KW V1)..as well Kw has a price increase also. No worries, we have ordered some extra units at the old price( current price) and so people will have a buffer. And for those who dont know..AST, Ohlins, Bilstein, Moton.....ALL had 08 price increases already. I just have sweet talked Germany for 7 months to NOT raise us and its finally happening. No worries, the enthusiast is our concern and we will do something to help out with price once the increase hits.

Ok let me help you guys to understand.

IF you look on their site.....there is a part # and application for the 05-07 STI. If you call them they will say yes it fits, esp here in the states. In the states they sold literally 2-3 sets before Germany pulled the idea. WHY?...it cut into V3 sales. Same thing in Germany. So in Germany, you can prob get them, but in the states you can not.

What he have done is added linear rear springs ( it comes with SUPER soft progreessive rear) to it for the enthusiast and raised the front rates just a hair and used the higher line KW race springs for about the same price as KW list them. But thats the deal.

So to recap...it was marketing politics. Having a entry level damper close in price( remember this was before the KW price increase in Feb 08) so the V1 was listed at 1499.00 I think.......and that effected v3 sales when they first made it available for 05-07 STI fitment.

So at the moment we do offer this fitment. But yes if you call KW they will "say" and it will "show" that there is an application, but on the technical side there has NOT been a build sheet for it in years. So now there is and its co-branded under RCE.

Hope that helps.

Myles
