Hmm.. Quite a bit, unfortunately; a little over $4K in the suspension, not counting rims/tires. But I wasn't going to compromise on this. The best ingredients make for the best results. The hard part is knowing when to compromise and when not to.

But as Williaty stated above, doing the work yourself will save a TON of money. I'd hate to think how much this would have cost if I had a shop do the work. When I first bought the STI, I was planning to swallow the bullet and have a shop do a lot of this work. But I built up my courage and did it myself. Having a frend who's done a lot of this before is a HUGE help. If you are thinking of doing the work on your suspension, find someone locally who can at least look over your shoudler and be there for any questions you have.

And ALWAYS remember: Attention to Detail counts!

Torque everything. Check everything. Go for a shakedown within walking distance of the garage to check everything before you really test out the new stuff. And always ease into the new changes. You might have improved the handling of the car, but you definately have changed the CHARACTER of the car which you should get used to first.

Really?! I thought it would be way more than that. Somehow, you've managed to come in cheaper than I have. Which is confusing since you have the Ohlins and the RCE plates...

Are you sure? That's odd. I checked again, and on just parts I'm around (probably a bit over) $4K. You also don't have a front bar, or RCA kit... I think you might be counting something extra. My estimate is on just the list in the first post.

For anyone who'd curious, everything but the bushings I got from RCE. Great company. If anyone is looking into getting suspension parts, I never hesitate to recommend RCE or TiC. Both are great companies that will help you out and make sure you're set up well.

Ha, you're right. The spreadsheet I was taking that from is my "everything" spreadsheet. Stripping it down to just suspension and nothing else drops the total to below $3k, which makes more sense considering my lack of Ohlins. I am using street value for parts I was able to "do a deal" on though, so my real out of pocket is less than that, but not by much.

Hey Draco,

I'm having the TIC klunk killer, lock bolts, and cross member bushings installed next week and I'm thinking about purchasing the Group N Bushing too. Do you have the part numbers or names of which group N bushings you used? I see a couple of different group N bushing listed.

Thanks

one thing i didn't see on your list that you kinda need: the front control arms on the 07sti are the same as the wrx. less caster = less front end grip under load = harder (read: almost impossible) to rotate the car while on track. so, you need the 06sti control arms, they are about 600$ for both of them.

More caster would be nice. But I don't think there is enough of a reason for ~1* of caster to justify $600. As it is, I've performed the "free caster mod" and the WL ALK adds caster as well. At this point I'm up to where the stock 04-06 STI is.

I know we talked about the red-pill reality of SAI, camber, and caster. Are you going to flop the plates side to side and rotate them so you get more caster and more camber when you break everything apart to do the roll center adjusters?

I'm a little defeated by the problems we've been seeing with the Whiteline Max-C plates.. Not sure if I want to go through the hassle and end up putting them back to how they are now.

Well, keep in mind that 1) you've more track width on this one, which allows the top to move more and 2) the Max-C's have that ghetto off-center-running-the-wrong-way adjustment travel. I think you're likely to find an entirely different situation with the RCE's.

Posted my first AutoCross impressions in the Conclusions post.

Short version: Great suspension, but needs tuning.
