Default Manual rack that fits sti? power steering removal.

Well during my recent build i got rid of the AC and such clutter in my bay, battery is going to the trunk.. and all that fun stuff..

my question is, to get rid of the power steering pump, lines, resizoir and all PS stuff is there some sort of manual steering rack that will fit into my 04 sti so it not so hard to steer with the power rack with no power assist lol

please post anyone info you have!

Thanks alot
nick

Q-rack builds quick racks for use with power steering by taking a stock rack and regearing it for a quicker ratio. It's possible that they could go the other way and make a custom rack with a slower ratio. Or you might be able to use the rack from a regular WRX or a Forester.

Honda guys do something like relooping a hose and it allows you to remove the majority of the stuff but still remain a semi-ps feel.

I know the RX7 guys pretty much gut the existing rack.

weight savings is one advantage, but the main reason im doing it is to help simplify the clutter in the subaru engine bay. to make it as easy as possible to work on/ pulll then motor whenever I have to.

my question, then, is: have you really thought about a cost/benefit analysis of this?

Does: Time doing research and installation and getting everything to work + added stress of driving = time saved over the course of the life of your car when pulling the engine? How many time will u pull the engine?

Just food for thought....lol

I totally support you if you think its worth it, just not something I could ever see myself doing

To me, it is worth it. I can live without having the luxury of things like AC.. and other such things like PS.

As far as cost goes, that doesnt bother me, you can always make more money . And time doing research and install.. well i gotta do something in my free time when im home from work lol.

And the less clutter in the engine bay the better, IMO anyways. When I build my k20r civic all you could see in the engine bay was the motor itselfm and fuel lines did a full wire truck, relocated the fuze box under the dash and the battery to the back. To me, thats sexy other have different opinions.. but to each their own...

I was looking at some rack and pinions on summit last night, and Im gunna take some measurements on my car and see if the summit universal manual rack would work on my car (with some fabrication of course, but I live fabricating so that wont be a problem

For gods sake...You have any info pertaining to this thread?

BUT, for the sake of it, only the PS pump line needs to come off to pull the motor. Non power racks feel awesome on lighter cars. I'm sure it would be fine at speed.

actually u just have to take the pump itself off the block and move it to the side to pull the motor out. i pull the motor out of my buddies bugeye last yesterday. gunna be putting a sti shortblock in

and yea, once you get movin the steering feels fine. i have plenty of experience with power racks.. with no power assist lol. But i was just curious to weather they made a manual rack with a different ratio to make it a little bit easier to turn at low speeds.

I've pulled plenty of EJ's. It's much easier to pull the line off and leave the PS pump in place.

*golf clap*

really, no PS on a front have AWD car? That does not sound like fun to me. I didnt have PS on one of my 944's and loved it at speed... but only at speed... On a street car, you need PS, unless the front of the car is really light (think NSX).
