You really should try an impreza out without PS. It is intense. I lift weights and I could BARELY move the wheel at low speeds.

and yea, once you get movin the steering feels fine. i have plenty of experience with power racks.. with no power assist lol. But i was just curious to weather they made a manual rack with a different ratio to make it a little bit easier to turn at low speeds.

shouldn't be bad if you do it the right way. Looping it isn't such a bad idea for a rig job.
