Default Wheel Alignment

I have a 06 STi that has no modifications to the suspension with 40K still on stock wheels and tires. I rotate my tires every other oil change, so every 6K miles. I was just changing my oil the other day when I looked at my passenger side rear tire and saw that it is extremely worn on the inside edge, so much so that the cords are starting to show. The other tires show wear but not even close to this tire. I did not feel any different drive characteristics and have also not hit any big pot holes or anything like that.

So the question here is, with my weight being 270 lbs., should I get the car realigned with that much weight in the front driver seat? I am going to have the dealer do the alignment with 4 new RE070's going back on, and I want to make sure this does not happen again. I just do not understand how one tire could be so badly worn when the other tires are nowhere near that bad.

Your alligntment could be really bad on one corner. Your weight DID NOT cord out your tires. Factory allignments are known to be crap. Get one tire...get it shaved to spec...and get a good alignemnt.

Also, did you hit a bad pothole, hit a curb etc? In order to cord out a tire you most likely have a bad toe problem. Excess camber will not cord our a tire alone...what cords out tires is toe.

Not true. Without rotating tires and LOTS of street driving (non-aggressive), camber WILL wear out a tire.

Not true. Camber wont cord out one tire leaving 3 others fine. Yes of course you have to rotate your tires but ive run -3 degrees of camber with 0 toe and I have had no wear issues...im not alone either.

Again camber wont cord out tires alone...toe + camber will.

getting 40k miles out of stock RE070s is amazing.

get a good alignment and 4 new tires.

it shouldn't happen again, dealers are paid to give all their cars alignments before they are delivered, few actually do.

I agree. I thought my 20K was pretty good.

Subaru says; If you have more than a 1/4" difference in tire tread and keep driving with subaru's AWD system you'll start to damage the transmission cause of the difference in wheel speeds (AT oil temp light all awd subarus have). That might be an exaggeration on their part as somewhat of a ploy to get more tire sales but, gotta cover your ass i guess.

So yeah, I'd definitely get 4 new tiiiires
