IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2007 Trader Rating: (2) | I was *attempting* this install tonight and I ran into a problem. Got all of the bolts loose except for the stud on the driver's side. It is double-nutted, but it is not budging. It soaked with PB for about an hour, no luck. I loosened the double nut to expose 3-4 threads of the post on the INSIDE (towards the diff.) I sprayed again and will let it sit overnight. Anyone have ANY suggestions??? For the outrigger bushings, the thin bushings are for the STi, correct? I thought I remember reading a post in here about someone swapping the thicks out for the thins with better results... Yes/No/Maybe? Thanks in advance!!! This ad is not endorsed by this member. | STI Driver | I ran into the same problem when installing the rear diff mount bushings on my car and I was also using PB. My crappy 17mm Metwrench brand wrench wasn't long enough (didn't have the torque) to remove one of the studs. I bought a stronger/longer 17mm wrench and it easily loosened the stud. I hope my post wasn't redundant, just offering a suggestion based on my experience. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jan 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | Have you tried liftng the diff with a jack a bit? It should be supported anyways so it doesn't drop onto the exhaust, but the stud might be binding now that you've removed the other one. |

| Authorized Vendor | There is no set order on the outriggers. Just try different combos. On the stud - if it will not loosen then heat it up with a torch, and let it cool. Or put a punch on a couple of the flats for the nut and smack it with a hammer. I would say to normally to the punch on the end of the stud, but it's hard to get to on that one. |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | I had no issues when I did mine a month or so ago. I didn't use a normal wrench to break the diff studs free though, 2 ft. breaker bar + 17mm deep socket ftw!! Take your time and use the right tools, those studs are in there pretty good. As for the outrigger bushings, I used the think one as I understood the thinner one was for the GC8. I have been very pleased with this mod as I'm sure you will be too. |

One tip for getting out the rear diff bushings is dunk them in warm soapy water, they will pop right out. | |

IWSTI Addict since: Jun 2007 Trader Rating: (2) | Got the stud loose. Time to buy a breaker bar because this is the 11ty millionth time I've needed one... Had to pull the exhaust out, axle back section of the XR1 I put in the other weekend... ...to drop the diff enough to get the bolts out. Thanks for all the suggestions on that stud. I hate being 100% clueless on how to approach a problem like that, but it worked out. Now I need to get it all back in! ![]() As for the outriggers, I installed the thin bushes, but it is easy enough that I can swap them back out. I might just do it anyway. Don't think I'll get to my TiC tranny crossmember bushes today |

IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | Glad to hear you got it all apart. No toolbox should be without a good size breaker bar. $25 well spent in my book. At any rate, good luck getting it all back together and enjoy! |
