Default Power proven bragging, but for suspensions

We have all this power proven stuff for, well, power, but what about suspension?

I'm not shooting down the power stuff - there's a lot of guys doing AMAZING things with these motors, and coming up with ideas I would never think of. I'm just wondering if we can do the same for suspensions in some way.

I'm all for a set of easily defined and understood metrics (like HP and torque are to power), and a way to consistently measure them.

I'm thinking along the lines of peak G's and sustained G's, but I'm also thinking along the lines of a full circle diagram showing lateral and long. G's.

Any input along these lines of thinking would be greatly appreciated.

Problem there is not everyone has the time, budget or track within range. I'm thinking along the lines of peak G's, at X speed, over Y time or something like that.

I think we should use our rally wing for this purpose of testing. simply record how many wendy's double bacon cheeseburgers can stick to the wing during a turn before sliding off. mmm wendy's.

- G-meter plots
- A standardized slalom of cones with X spacing and x distance from the first cone as a standing start.
- Highest held G-s (instantaneous mean nothing)
- most busted kidneys

Everybody should get one of these:

Amazon.com: Escort Passport GT1 G-Timer Vehicle Performance Computer with Basic Feature Set: Electronics

Then you could have real figures (and they're only $35, I have one and it works surprisingly well)

Done. I love a bargain, thanks for the link! (And if we're all using the same product, hopefully results will be comparable.)

I don't see it doing average G's or logging anything more than 0-60 runs, so the best we'll be able to compare is peak lateral G's. That right? And the premium version will show you the "traction circle", which is the sum of G forces in all directions, which is very meaningful... but it won't data log that number. The 10 runs it records are only straight-line logs.

For those curious, here's the manuals for the $35 and $70 versions, respectfully:

http://www.escortradar.com/pdf/gt2manual.pdf

Edit #2: Cancelled Amazon GT1 order and bought the GT2 model on eBay for $51+$8 shipping!
Escort Passport GT2 G TIMER/METER FAST SHIPPING! - eBay (item 260229070366 end time Apr-20-08 09:36:50 PDT)

Edit #3: Just to throw some numbers out there, back when I was racing my Mazda6, I had the original G-Tech. It told me I was peaking around ~1.16G's lateral G's, and I'd say holding 1.1 (but again, it wouldn't calculate an average). This was on the original Falken Azenis RT-215.

Call me crazy, or naive, but isn't there a circle+speed test that does this? We would need some nice flat space to drive around on like a track or a parking lot. I'm talking about what they do in the option DVD episodes. I think they set the circle, and then drive around it at the fastest speed that doesn't loose grip. Then, average sustained G's are calculated from the time.

there's always the max-q, but that's pricey.

Robot - any thoughts on your little G-meter dealie from your dash kit?

The circle is good, but doesn't measure transitional response (ie side to side). If all I wanted was SICK numbers in one direction at a constant speed I'd unhook the bars and go to town letting the suspension load slowly.

I have usb key and to laptop datalogging working right now. In a few minutes I'm going to see the max sample rate I can force out of my setup.

BTW the Maxq is actually a relatively good deal for the hardware you get. The GPS receiver is where most of the money goes.
