What we really need is something like a track. Say, and airfield. Then, we need to send all the cars there to be driven by a consistent driver. Say, a tame racing car driver...

Tony took a ton of Max-q data at the track, and Rob is compiling it into a more readable format.

Actually, Rob tells me it's done and on Tony's laptop....... which he forgot today.

I'll have him post it up so we can start to get an idea of how things are measured with it, and what we would come up with a standard.

Oh, this was for the 08 STi as well.

Where is the data at man!!!! I got some max q data (from the chepo MaxQGPS unit, didn't have my MQ200 hooked up) and can send it out. My car is stock power, stock suspenions. Only mods are track pads, racing brake slotted rotors and the Sparco bar. Tires are 245/45-17 Azenis 615's.

I am hoping to throw on Pink springs (JDM) and the TiC frame bars and do some parking lot comparisons (runing over a bump, skid pad etc.) to compare performance.

We'll work on getting that on the site today. Just trying to figure out the best format.

How does the MaxQ output data?

I believe it's proprietary, but the viewer software is free so you could grab the data file and "playback" the laps.

It has its own viewer that outputs to an HTML page. It gives you G data and lap times as well as the lines you took around the course. You can also overlay your line on a google earth image of the track. It's pretty cool.

If we can get our FTP server working, we'll get the images out here.

Some links:

Lap 1
Lap 2
Lap 3
Lap 4 (I think this was cool down)

I'll post up links to the data files later.

What MaxQdata are you guys using? Just the cheap gps one or the full unit with OBDII and inertial sensors??

Anyway, the data is propriatery but you can export it into EXCEL, hence you can do your own analyzing. The MaxQ software is free though so anybody can view TiC's data or anybodie elses. The MaxQ stuff though is pretty sweet and in my opinion it is worthless when you look at lines etc. because the GPS drift can be as much as 10ft. However, comparing lap to lap and somebodies data at the same track to yours gives you very good input.

We are using whatever version Kartboy sent us....the cheap version. I would love to have the one that interfaces to the OBD system, but it's out of our price range at the moment. We have the excel files for the data if people want to play with it.

Keep in mind, these were not all out laps. These were done on my last run group of the day at which point I was having braking issues. The straights are not all out at all, but most of the corners were 8/10's or so.

Yeah, I feel you on the OBD system. YOu have no idea how much more info it gives you about YOU and how you drive the car.

Anyhow, what braking issues did you have?? I melted some Carbotech XP10's on my STi at Waterford last weekend on Racing brake slotted rotors. I am hatting aftermarket rotors and pads (street) right now. My whole freaking car vibrates. At the track however the braking was a lot better then ever before but that resulted in significantly more heat and my front left brembo finally bronzed up. Looks completely different than the other 2. Sucks.

Could you shoot me your MaxQ data over (the actual mqd file). My email is mgrebovic@gmail.com. I can shoot you my data back from Waterford on the stock 05. Later man.

I can answer that - cooked the rotors. Just didn't have enough air to them. Need to get more in there.

To revive this thread:

Here is some additional data from a track day on Tuesday at Autobahn South. Overall it was a good day, but I still had problems with brake fade. I am stepping up to a high heat compound for next time. Since the last day in the 08, I have added some camber bushings in the rear and aligned the car with 1.5* in the front and 1 in the rear. It felt much better, but still needs more front camber.

If you think that was brake fade- you have to ride in my car next time. I felt like I was driving with Hyuandai brakes after my laps with you.
