Default power steering rack

I Have Been Having A Problem With My Power Steering For About A Month Now But Havent Really Thought Nothing Of It Because I Still Have Power Steering But My Car Whines When You Turn The Wheels. I Crawled Under My Car And Noticed It Was A Little Wet. It Was Power Steering Fluid And It Seemed Like It Was Coming From My Rack. Any Advise? Could This Be My Problem?

Are you low on fluid? Top it off first.

Did you install the steering rack bushings? If so, you may have damaged one of the O-rings. They are dirt cheap. Go the the dealer and order one closest to where leak is coming from and some fluid and be sure to study the diagram while you're there. Then, attack it with your tools and replenish the lost fluid. If you think this is it, PM me and I will get torque specs for you.

Another source of noise can be stretched belts or old ones about to go.

If all those check out, start sourcing a new pump and get ready for an easy swap.

Check your fluid level first. Then start you car and take the top of your p.s. res. off and see if it has bubbles in it, or whiteish color, not the normal steering fluid brown color. If the fluid has bubbles/arreated it is probably a hydrolic leak inside the p.s. pump. I would look there because a pump, new or used is going to be a lot cheaper than a rack. Usually if a rack is bad, it is very irratic, like stiff turning one way and fine the other. When p.s. pumps go bad, they are bad left or right because the pump has no idea what way you are turning. But if it turns hard to the right and not the left I would suspect rack.

I got a p.s. pump for my outback at a local wrecking yard for 45.00. I think a used one is better than a crappy rebuilt aftermarket one so that is why I went used. Worked perfect and I keeped the old one and got a overhaul kit from subaru for 15.oo and rebuilt the original one and threw it on a shelf in my shop. The used one has been on for 30 k miles and works great.
