Thumbs down Noise: KCA313? Steering? VIDEO

YouTube - STi Creaking noise Steering Whiteline KCA313

When the steering is turned left only can be while slow speed or even stationary. A creaking sound comes sounds like something from steering, control arm area. I recorded the sound clip...what do you guys think...I have no idea.

I have steering rack bushings and the KCA313 Roll center adjustment kit

I had checked the front wheels for slop just 2 weeks ago for any signs of ball joint or tie rod end failure everything seemed solid

are you running camber plates/coilovers?

have you double checked every bolt that holds the rack on the car?

I havent checked every bolt but i was under there and everything is mucho solid and everything on my car is torqued to spec and double checked weeks after install to verify.

I have Prodrive springs on stock struts with Group N top hats

Also have Race ALK's and various other braces... camber front is -2.0, zero toe. Car drives in a straight line at 100mph to 10mph without touching the steering. (Excet when it finds a rut)

did you apply grease to your steering rack bushings when you installed them?

And I gotta say - that video sounds more like tire being forced to turn on smooth concrete.

Put the front on ramps, make sure it's secure, slide underneath while you have someone turn the wheel.

Do you get this this when you turn the wheel and the front end is in the air?

I did not have ramps so I had to jack up the opposite side of the car to get some head room...the squeak seems to be from the driver ball joint. (KCA313)

I lubed up a few bushings and sprayed this penetrating lube from KROWN into the ball joint seat in the control arm and where it goes into the knuckle. Its either made things worse or its just a co-incidence but there is a lot more creaking/squeaking.

I am positive something between the control arm/ball joint seat and the strut top is loose and if I drive on broken/torn pavement slow you can hear it. My gut says ball joint is broken.

I am mechanically inclined but I am no suspension guru...I dont know what to do..My KCA313 kit is only 6 months old and just 1 track day.

Don't you mean jack stands? Turning the wheel on ramps could be disastrous.

That's not good to hear. I still have yet to install my kit.

I'd contact Whiteline and explain to them the issue you're having. It's possible that you got a defective part.

I have emailed them its Sunday Morning there, have to wait till Monday to hear back from them I guess. Local Subaru race club here has reported more failures of this kit...what about here...anyone experience the same? Was it covered under warranty by Whiteline?

I remember reading of an issue where the boots had slits in them but it was an isolated batch and Whiteline stepped up to the plate on it. Other than that, I'm surprised/disappointed to hear that others are failing as I was looking forward to installing this part this summer. I'll keep waiting to hear more before I install mine, please keep us updated.

I didnt see any slits in the rubber boot...the rubber boot was very pliable on inspection.

Oh and fwiw It made the car handle SOOOOOOOO much better on the track I was ripping thru corners with my foot buried on exit...I was able to chase down a GT3 and beat it thrugh the turns but it would spit me out in the 2 straights...car has tons of suspension work, braces....but this just made it that much sweeter

Someone sticky this:

After tearing my front suspension 3 times over the weekend I have the problem nailed to the driver side ball joint from the WL RCA's The normal wiggle the wheel resulted in no play it has to be removed and inspected or some how get a small pry bar to jack the knuckle and control arm apart and see if there is play.

Currently I have DS STOCK ball joint and PS WL(not broken) so I can tell when I turn left what it is like STOCK and turn right for the WL...the WL def delivers and does what it claims. I am in contact with my supplier and also emailed WL tech support. Will update when I have something...this is not new however this has occured with a few other guys over here. And NO this is DIFFERENT from the 6Gun issue

Can you explain what the 6Gun issue is, or point to a thread on it? Thanks.
