Yeah, there's a lot more void area initially, but the bottom half is not just solid- it's a stiffer durometer than the stock bump stop. It's designed to have that very sharp increase in spring rate half way through, so you don't want to actually ride on that part. The rise in stiffness is there to average out the spring rate spike while bottoming out.

A Prodrive-spring STI rides on its bump stops. A stock STI is already very close (I think it hits the bump stops just from having a driver and a passenger in the car) and the Prodrive springs lower about half an inch over stock up front.

You can see that lowering the car another inch (going another inch into the bump stops) will put the car completely onto the firm progression of the bump stop with hardly any bump travel left (and what's there will be hugely stiff).

The point is that regardless of what bump stops you run, they cannot make up for a lack of bump travel. The Prodrive bump stops do feel a lot better when at a stock ride height, but once you lower the car and squish those bump stops to their firm progression, the suspension is still fubar'ed.

What if he got non-lowering plates and dialed in -2 camber or so, is that worth any drop?

Look again.
Rear is lower and so is the front. The Prodrvies lower your car 10mm which is nothing and looks like it. See the before pictures and all that gap..I felt like I didnt even change my spring. It looks just like the doo doo stock ride height with WAY TOO MUCH GAP UP FRONT!.
How you can't see the difference leads me to believe maybe aesthestics are not that important.
The RCE's are not a slammed look but clearly lower than the Prodrives. IMO they strike the perfect balance of performance and aesthetic. I am on stock struts with maxed camber all around and zero toe. I also have the Cobb front/rear bars. Car handles like it is on rails.
Keep in mind this car is not my DD but my weekend car.
The ride is harsher but not to the point of popping out your fillings.
