Default Need advice on springs!

I just bought my 05 sti about 6 months ago, and I want to start modding it. I have the front and rear whiteline sways that I have not yet put on. I need some advice on what endlinks and springs I should go with. Are endlinks even needed? It is my daily driver so I want something that will give it more of a aggressive look but nothing too low, because the roads where I live are not the greatest. I have done alot of research on the forum and there is alot of talk about the RCE yellows and blacks. Also I dont want to have any camber problems after the drop. I have lowered my previous cars and had problems with camber and tire wear even after an alignment. I dont want that anymore! What is my best option? Any advice is appreciated.

thanks

I'm running RCE Yellows with Whiteline sways and it handles great. The drop is modest and the ride is comparable to stock. You need rear endlinks but can use the stock ones for the front.

You'll definately need an alignment, mine was all effed up after the install.

first off thank you for your replies, I am new to postin on the forum but have been reading alot. hitman, did you buy any kind of camber plates for correction? or just get it aligned to fix? Are you running stock struts? and what about the pinks, I heard they dont give you as much as a drop as the yellows do?

I didn't buy camber plates but definately need them because I was only able to get -0.7deg in the front. The shop that did the alignment said the rear isn't adjustable which i think is wrong, but anyway the rear is at approx -2.4deg until I get it to a shop that know what they're doing.

I'm running stock struts and stock bumpstops. A friend of mine is running Pinks on his WRX and they don't offer a very even look. The front of his car sits too high and the rear just sags. He plans on buying a set of yellows in the spring.

PM "RaceComp Engineering" for the yellows. He can also set you up with a nice set of camber plates. His name is Myles and I'm sure he'll point you in the right direction.

Just to clarify this post, while I don't know exactly how a WRX looks with Pinks, the car itself "looks" higher in the front but technically isn't because the wheel fender in the front is higher than in the rear.

Evening out the gaps from my opinion doesn't improve anything but the look. To the OP, if you're looking for springs you should figure out what exactly you want from the springs. And remember, there is a trade-off you have to consider when purchasing mods and the more common trade-off for springs is ride comfort vs. performance.

With that said, you can run any of the more popular springs without camber plates and just get an alignment afterwards. I haven't had a problem with said adjustments or uneven wear and i've put RCE Yellows and Prodrive springs on my car.

If you want to see my RCE vs. Prodrive comparision, read it here.

The rear camber in all STI's is NOT adjustable so don't get confused. The front however is, I just got RCE Blacks installed and got my alignment approximately 12 days after and the tech was able to get -1.0 degree of camber up front. It was like -.5 before.

From what I've read and heard RCE Blacks 'even' out the car the most while still providing ride comfort, drivability, and improved handling.

If you want pics and feed back on the Blacks look here:

RCE Blacks installed - 2007 STI

My car did settle a tad more since these pics were taken, just and FYI.

Thanks for for the contact name hitman

I think I'm gonna look into the blacks some more. Jordan thanks for the pics, cars looks really good. The blacks seem to level the car out pretty even. Parker this is a DD for me so I need to keep as much drive comfort as possible, but still have a slightly more aggressive look and better performance. Im worried more about performance than the looks honestly. The blacks look like they could be the way to go. Also I would love to get rid of some of the bobble head I have. As far as the non-adjustable rear camber do you think your gonna have any tire wear problems in the future? And are you on stock struts and bumps?

thanks again

defalco how much you want for the pinks?

RCE replaced the front bumpstops with shorter ones that come with the blacks. The rears were left alone. The same stock camber was present even before the drop.

I like the Kartboy endlinks, but others really like the Poltec. Either way, mount the bars first. You might really like how the car feels after just the bars. If you still want to do springs, I like the RCE blacks also.

Where is the best place to get the kartboy endlinks at?

The blacks, though i've never tested, seem to be a great fit. I think they're along the lines of the prodrives in terms of comfort.

as for your bobblehead comment...most springs won't get rid of this and may not even minimize it. If you truly want to get rid of the bobblehead, replace the stock seats or do a search for how to minimize it with the stock seats.

TurnInConcepts.com
or
RaceCompEngineering.com

Both are great shops who really know their stuff and post here on IWSTI often. You can run questions by them and I would definately trust their advice as it's backed by both theoretical knowledge and real-world racing experience. You can trust both of those companies to steer you right.
