Stretch, keep in mind that the new STi is rolling on 18's, which will pick it up 0.5'' compared to the 17's on the stock 08 WRX. This tells me that in order for them to lower it by 1'' they must've changed all of the hard points by quiet a bit when comparing to the pre 08's, no? They could've done it but man, talk about redesigning the whole chassis.

Also, the motor trend comparisons show slight improvements for the 08 in the MT figure eight time, the braking and the slalom speed. But man, a heaviliy modified 05 that tinny bit faster than a 08?!?! Was the 05 power moded too?? It must've been.

I wish somebody would just quit Subaru and give us all the data so we can compare I would love to see roll rates and yaw rates of the two different frames.

If anybody is up for it, I am logging my ALMOST stock STi (245 azenis on it) at Waterford on May 10th and I would be more than glad to supply my data acq system to anybody with an 08. I am very curious because I love data.....pleaseeeee

Let me see if I can send Tony up there for that.

On another note on the CG - remember the hood is now steel, and you have a roof that's up higher longer than on the old chassis.

I have a feeling that I won't be able to tell everything they did to lower the CG of this car until I get it on a lift and start to take everything off the bottom and check it out.

Stretch - are you back from vacation or did you find an internet cafe?

I'm back. No internet on vacation 'cept to check the weather, that's a rule!

My guess is that most of the low CG was obtained by reducing the weight of the safety cage. I bet there's much less weight in the pillars. The Impreza gained all its weight when Subaru started reinforcing that stuff (for safety reasons), and now they're probably being more intelligent about it with the new platform.

Good news. Just found out that a very good friend who is sick fast in STi's bought a 08 DGM STi. He is coming for the track event for sure and I will slap my data acq. to his ride. I am very curious and can't wait to drive in one.

I didn't use the MaxQ, but my radio has an accelerometer in it. I pulled a max of 1.24G on a left turn which was likely the showcase turn.

I can't make the 10th. Friend's wedding.

Nice work guys, I'm seriously thinking of trading up to an '08. I'll have to come down to Cincy for an autocross sometime and see it in person. Are you guys planning on bringing the car out on the 6th of April? Any plans for peru or toledo? I'd love to see how it stacks up at the big events.
Let me know if you want a front sway :P

What is the 6th of April?

I was talking to Chuck last weekend about Toledo. Maybe as that is also my home town.

Oh, could be. Come on down!!!

edit: you are right. I saw that on the calendar today. It's about 30-45 mins south of Cincinnati depending on how fast you drive. I will probably be there as I should have my new tires on, a DP and tune and possibly some sways by then.

Tony

Who is that guy?? I sure hope you're not talking 'bout me!

Still not 100% sure if I'll be able to make it there, since it's the off week between a test and the Miller race. I'm definitely hoping to make it though ... tell that "sick fast" guy who's bringing his car that he made a good choice!

How about just "stupid fast" in anything he touches.... although he could suffer from the "Romo" syndrome and have lost his touch!

The 2008 car IS the car to beat. Once Clint empties his sleaves it will make for a much better chassis. We have our camber plates for the 08 that are about 4 weeks away.
