Does anyone else have a steering thud?

Can anyone explain my steering thud? Its not the ball joints...its not tie rods...its not CV joints. I checked them all out. When I hit a bump in mid corner I get a ***thud***...only when I corner...not in a straight line. I can feel through the steering wheel. It has happened for as long as I can remember and is quite annyoing.

I know...ive made a few over the years...no one has been able to pin it down.

I think I experience the same thing during autos runs. I'm running high spring rates, a 29 mm sway and steering rack bushings. It feels like the steering rack itself is shifting in itsmounts or something. For me it was a bit disconcerting the first time so checked all tv bolts involved for propped torque , etc and everything seems fine. I also see no abnormal wear in the effected areas. I do think it only occurs mid turn when I hit the bump stops.

I get a thud that I can feel when I go on one particular off ramp. It is one of those ones where you do a 360 and it also goes up hill. The pavement looks like some randomly put holes in it with a jack hammer. I just installed TiC SSTs this weekend so I should be able to tell if it was just the suspension bouncing off the bump stops when I go to work tomorrow.

I had it with a completly stock suspension...and still have it with a completly revised suspension (coilovers, lots of bushings, x-brace, alk etc etc).

i have the same thing and i have an aftermarket steering rack--mine only happens when it is really cold and it is when i am pulling into my work parking lot--i also have alot of bracing and aftermarket sways and endlinks--i too thought something was wrong but it is just that the car is stiffer and there isn't any give in the frame and its components anymore because of the bushings and such

You dont happen to have any pictures of where the lines were knocking? I got under my car and looked at all of the power steering lines and none seemed loose or anything. Maybe im not looking in the right location? Thank you for your help!

I have the same problem but I do not get the thud all of the time. I only get the noise on very large bumps/dips. Note that that the Whiteline steering rack bushings installed.

I will take a look at the power steering lines to see if there is anything loose.

1st picture......Passenger side front......please note copper lines

2nd picture.....these lines are held together with a steel bracket but the bracket is free to clang around when going over bumps

3rd picture.....a close up/blurry view of "rubber blanket diaper thingy" zip tied around bracket
