Gimmick over in his journal removed his front subframe. This is amazing to me. He also said he replaced it with an NRG H-brace. How is this possible? Don't you lose mucho mounting points for all kinds of stuff (i.e. undertray)? This seems like a no-brainer for weight savings but what are the down-sides?

my cf trunk is 7 lbs, there is quite a bit of variation in the weight of cf parts depending on the manufacturer and construction technique.

You lose the undertray and some frontal crash protection. Oil changes are faster though, especially with a fumoto valve. Also, your engine compartment gets dirtier.

removing the under tray is not good. It helps with aero-dynamics and protects that area-trust me it has been tested and is in thread floating around somewhere. A better subframe option like the Beatrush one is the way to go. You can still use the stock under tray or aftermarket i believe.

My most recent measurements include the ACPT CF driveshaft (14.5 lbs) and the stock driveshaft (29.7 lbs). I was completely surprised to see that much difference in weight savings. This is from an '06 STi.

Default Re: THE LIGHTWEIGHT PARTS THREAD by Kingofimports.com

Can anybody confirm the weight of the bumper beams that come with FMIC's?

The weight of the FMIC's would be cool too, so we can compare the two to the stock bumper beam and tmic.
