Default Upgrading suspension - RCE??

I am doing suspension mods for my 06 STI. Mainly a DD would like to get track time in the future, but mainly right now a weekend warrior on my nice local twisty roads where I live. I was thinking of going either springs or coilover. My question is this I am gonna do Whiteline Sway F&R , ALK, RCE Springs, Stock struts for now and anything else i would need this setup i could afford soon.. Or going with RCE Coilovers, White Sways F&R this setup will cost a bit more obviously cause the coils are $1900. Just wondering which way I should go.

well you have to be honest what you want first.
1) something thats nice as a DD, can go over speed bumps, potholes and still be a nice ride
2) a LOT more sporty, still ok as a DD and "good" on track
3) something thats VERY performance oriented

i hope you can guess what the options are. I'd call RCE, myles and the gang have been in the business for years and know exactly how to set a car up. They know what type of suspension you want for they type of driving you do, and thats the reason I'll always trust them.

I have talked to them, cool guys lots of info. I just wanted to get opinions from guys who run there stuff and different setups you know. I really want to keep the comfort level since it is my DD but i also want performance. Like I said I drive the car hard and all the roads by me are twisty mountain roads so I take the car to the limits at least for me, so at the same time that I want DD comfort I want performance aswell so a combo of 1 & 3..

don't take your car to the limits on the road, especially if you don't have some track experience and don't actually know where the limits are...just a heads up! As far as modifying suspension...definitely call myles. I'd start out with little things like sway bars first, and see how you like it...no need to go all out at the very beginning.

My limits are safe dont worry, I drive a Crown Vic all day for work and thing really see alot of limits, hopefully we will get Chargers soon wish they gave us Subi's, I should of been a cop in Europe cooler cars.. But anyway I have had alot of track time in the past its been a while, I am 30 now and dont get that much time for it anymore so no track time with the STI but I know I want to upgrade the suspension, and I like doing it once and doing it right so yes I do want to so sways but I want to go further than that. Option 1 and 3 are very hard to come by in a single package.

umm, its impossible.. trust me

you can only have 1, or 2, or 3... so pick one.

Honestly call up RCE again, and ask for sways (great first mod) and nice comfy DD springs (i think they are the RCE blacks?). Once you have all that on, go from there, if you want a firmer ride, opt for the yellows and sell the blacks.

But what do you guys think if I went with Whiteline Sway F&R, ALK, RCE Springs, End Links and some bushings. It would be alot cheaper then the coilovers, but I am wondering if the car is gonna handle the way I want it too.. I just want to make sure before I spend this kind of money. If I can get sort of the same results with springs and run them for a while till my stock struts crap out then I can always go coilovers later... Ahhhh What should I do

You told RCE what you want to do, and how you want the car to handle right?

RCE gives advice based upon that information. RCE made those recommendations to get you to the point you want to be at. While it's ok to think about what you're doing, you're also departing from what is a good recommendation. At that point you have to wonder why you are moving so far away from what they, with their experience, are recommending.

I think...,....I think..........the part he(op) is leaving out is that he ALSO wants a cheaper option..............and he ran this by us as well..........and thats the second route he mentioned.

But we( vendors with experience, Clint and myself) see the other scenario all the time where trusted vendor says do this and OP ( not this one) does something different and has issues.

Wanted to explain.

Myles

No they gave me both options, I guess I didnt explain myself right. I talked to Myles gave me alot of good info, both with springs and with the coilovers. My question is just wondering how the option with springs is just want to get peoples opinion that actually run the setup. Before I spend money I just want to make sure its worth it.. Meaning I just dont want to go the springs route cause its cheaper yeah that helps but I want it to ride the way I want aswell. So basically just want to get opinions for guys that have Sways F&R, ALK, RCE Blacks and Top Hats and see how they are liking the combo thats all.

The cheaper option will be great, and you would be happy running it untill you get a new car. It's basically what I'm running now. BUT you'll continue hearing about people with the more expensive option, and how great that is. Perhaps you'll even have the oppertunity to ride in a car with the coilovers, and then you'll want those, and will start regreting the choice to go cheap.

Either route will be a podium finish, it's up to you and your money to decide if you want to be 1st, 2nd, or 3rd.
