Default Koni/GC Guru Needed!! Q about spring rates and ride height

I'm currently running Megan Racing Street coilovers. My drop in the front is about 2" and 1.5" in the rear. The spring rates of my coilovers are 8kg front 6kg rear and the ride is just too harsh for my liking for daily driving, even at the softest setting there's barely any suspension travel. I'm currently in the process of purchasing a Koni/GC set-up for my '04 WRX STi.

My car is primarily used for daily driving, but I would like a set-up suitable for the occasional autocross event. It is also important to know that I'll be running quite an aggressive wheel fitment with a set of 18x9 + 30 offset wheels mounted with 255/35/18 all around. I already have the amount of camber front and rear necessary to make it happen and my fenders are already rolled.

I need some help!!! What spring rates Front and Rear would you suggest? What length Springs would allow me to drop my car to a similiar ride height that they are now about 2" front and 1.5" rear compared to stock ride height?

Lookin for a Koni/GC guru to help me out here fellas! Any help and info provided is greatly apprecited! Thanks in advance!

Wow! With a drop like that you've got more going on than just being stiff. You might want to read thru this section and get familiar with all the issues of running a STI that low.

CMoore, the premise of your question makes the answer somewhat impossible. That's really just too low.

Still, if you're going to do it anyway, then make sure you have the Ground Control camber plates. They trade an inch of droop for an inch of bump travel and are necessary to get the drop you want. The GC coilovers are really designed to be used with the camber plates and, IMO, should always be used together.

With the GC camber plates, I don't think you'll be on the bump stops yet with a 2" front drop, but it'll be close. For a daily driver, you want suspension travel and softer spring rates. With a 2" drop, that's not really possible- raising the car will likely improve the ride.

For springs, I'd recommend in the neighborhood of 400lb/in front, 350lb/in rear springs. I normally like to see softer on a daily driver, but that seems to be what Ground Control valved their stuff for. The WRX Koni inserts support softer spring rates if you run those in the rear instead. You might have to run 7" springs front and rear to get your desired ride heights, but I'd recommend you run 8" springs and forget that ride height since, as you can tell, I think it's too low. 8" springs will get you into the "too low" range already, IMO.

I think I still have a set of GC 350lb/in 7" springs if you want 'em for cheap. (Yup, just checked, I have two pairs.)

So you say thats too low of a ride height... Ok. Whats a good ride height? I by no means wanna be tuckin tire, but I dont want no more than a 2 finger gap from tire to fender either.

My Koni/GC set up should be here soon they're in the red GC housings. I ordered all 8" springs, 350lb. front 325 lb. rear. I also have the GC camber/caster plates for the front AND for the rear.

How should I set these bad boys up before installing them on my car? I appreciate the help guys! Any input and advise is greatly appreciated.

P.S. Yes I posted the same thread on NASIOC... why not?!!? The more input the better right!
