Too proud...not too proud, I can always learn more and develop into a better driver. For the two years I've done the HPDE in cars (about 7 track days)....no where near 8K laps on a track like you, you super-great wonderful piker... I expect to develop into a better driver. Years of experience, thousands of laps on a track... and you come accross as an immature noob that's gotten spanked down - I don't believe it one second. You've something to add about the topics at hand or you just looking for a fight? What you say is not necessarily the issue, I'm always open to critical eye giving some constructive advice, it's just the way you express it... a condescending tone and insulting. Really, sounds like you're looking for a fight... Tell me it's a fight, please, because that's where I have the 8K laps experience. Really, M3Clown, please introduce yourself should we meet... IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | OK lets be clear. I could have been nicer and more constructive. But having spent years trying to teach people to drive quickly and safely there are certain things you get to just know. I did just watch the very first clip. maybe the others showed more promise. But like all the guys who show up w/ really fine Machines that are hugely capable, the car is way ahead of the Driver. This is a receipe for disaster. Not sure why you would go drive on crap tires at the track? since it was seasons end I'kll assume you just didn't want to buy some replacements and have them sit in the garage all winter. PLease don't think I am a poser who isn't being truthful about my qualifications. I have video but alas it is all on Hi-8 format and frankly don't have the time or care to convert/post it. It doesn't matter to anyone but me what it shows. As a LONG TIME instructor w/ PDA, SCDA, BMWCCA, MB AMG and the occaisional TRack Masters events, I know what I see. The blue Group is what we fondly refer too as the " just fast enough to be dangerous" group. OUt on your own, trying to lay down a hot lap or two and get the point by for the feeling of accomploishment............... Dude, seriously, try hitting your marks as your #1 goal. ya cannot go faster until you do. if you can tell me how to post a pic, I can at least put one up. I could have been more gentle in my comments. heres a two tips for LRP. 1. dont down shift at the end of the main straight before entering big bend. It generally makes the car light in the rear and not real stable upon entry. try downshifting just before the first apex. it'll feel hugely better and you be very quick to the rotation point setting up for the second apex. to rotate, use your LEFT foot to trailbrake firmly for just a split second to get the weight off the rear. you turn the wheel when you apply the brake at the same time. once it starts to rotate, back on the throttle and mash it until you get to the left hander. 2. halfway up the climbing turn, the hill gets a bit steeper abot halfway up. you feel it when you climb up there right? well use that compression in the face of the hill to get your last turn in aggressively while all that pressure is applied to the tires. this technique allows you to apex earlier, carry more speed into the hill, and easily make your exit line on the last inch of the outside before you crest the hill. more to follow: NOw it's more constructive. My commments made you defensive and understandably so. no more range wars for me. hope this is helpful in your future events at LRP. Eric |

THIS IS NOT NASIOC Around here we are normally polite. As for the 500k point-by,if you don't see the funny side of it ,then you need some drugs to cheer up. Again, what's your beef? Let us see your Vids so we can compare.

IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (1) | Yes, MuayThai/JKD and BJJ(Gracie). Bas was a phenomenal fighter and is a great teacher now. Z06 was incredible but the STI fits my family/life better. As a man, I accept your olive branch. Begood, TomK Last edited by ace996; 11-25-2007 at 05:32 PM. |

IWSTI Addict since: Nov 2007 Trader Rating: (0) | well there ya have it. now I can sleep knowing a submission joint lock or choke is not in my immediate future. LOL Yeah that 4 door rocket theory is what is leading me to dump my 95 M3. then again, my daughter loves the M cars at 5 years old. started in my 88, graduated to the 95. showed her a nice hi res wallpaper shot ofa WRX STI and she lit up a big smile and said "yeah get that one Daddy!" glad we could mend the fence. IWSTI Addict since: Dec 2004 Trader Rating: (1) | Not immediate... My four year old son, Achilles, cried when "the man took the Corvette away". He loved that car...rode in the passenger seat with his booster...legal in NY with the airbag turned off. I tell him now that the STI is his...the Grey Dragon, a transformer that fights Decepticons at night while we sleep...he likes it now, but still wants a Corvette. | Junior STI Driver | Hello Eric, Welcome to IWSTI. Hopefully one of these days you will get the STis and realize what a phenomenal machine it is. I too used to have BMWs (E36 M3s) and like you instructed with CCA and Trackmasters when I used to live up in the North. The Subaru track community is very small. We don't fewer vendors who cater to the track junkies, fewer junkies themselves. Running 1:04s at LRP in an E30 street car is very quick. Tom has been posting some interesting stuff on the forums and is quite open to sharing information and his zest to be a better drive is surely up there. I think sometimes we instructors forget the beginner's mind. I remember when I started tracking, I wasn't as open to getting data, comparing notes etc as much as Tom. Hence the learning curve was slow (for me). Tom, You are certainly on the right track, if you can hunt down the likes of (BTW they are all up in the North East) Tony Funicello (chief instructor for Trackmasters), Blake Smith (Chief instructor for NJ Chapter BMWCCA), David Foote (COMSCC) his son Kevin works for Turnermotorsports, there are a few other folks out there (Jack Lambert, Bruce Allen and John Levy) and have them drive your car while you are in as passenger, they will blow your mind away. Then have them out with you while you are driving and have them coach you (also compare data which you have access to- a bonus). That is how I learnt. I know the above mentioned folks personally (they are EXTREMELY friendly and quite helpful) and they helped me out BIG TIME especially David/Dave Foote. I started off running high 1:07s, 1:08s in a stock E36 M3 (my name is Ahmad Lutfeali) Lime Rock Park - November, 2000 Kept running those times again and again without much gains. With help from John Levy (sat with him for ONE session and saw how he drove), the same weekend with plenty of feedback, I finally broke into the 1:04s without doing additional mods. http://www.vilece.tv/vr/cartct/june2002/results.html (same year I become an instructor after attending Trackmaster's/NJ BMWCCA Instructor Training School). Vilece is very fast at LRP and check out some of his videos as well: http://www.vilece.tv/vr/generatelist.asp?SearchBox=30000019 For benchmark on STi times, check out COMSCC. The guys there are brutally fast and competitive. After reading the rules, in cold November, an STi with a turbo back (cats in place), ECU flash, coilovers, camber plates, swaybars, R Comps, track pads (stock brakes) factory weight and approx 300~whp (?) is good for 1:01s (http://www.comscc.org/results/lrp_1106.htm) ( I want to find out who Ryan Catucci and Joseph Lu are myself and speak to them about their setup, videos if possible etc.). The same Mr. Lu seems to be running 2:13s at the Glen (HOLY mother of GOD). http://www.comscc.org/results/wgi_0407.htm Looks like a stock STi running stock width wheels, "as delivered from the factory" tires (I am assuming those would be the RE070s), stock camber etc. (with cat back, shocks and brake pads being the only mod) in Super Stock Unlimited is good for 1:02s (driven by Patrick McParland see times listed above) at LRP. Best of luck and again with your planned approach and meeting the right mentor/teacher you should be able to modify the nut behind the wheel by leaps in bounds Keep posting those data, its been quite helpful.Regards, Lutfy PS: Next year I too plan on having a pro-driver coach me for my club racing program. Then it all seemed to work itself out. But I have to say that definitely wasn't the best way to leave a good first impression M3. (But at least you sounded sincere in your apology) Tom, I have to say that you dealt with that situation very well. You must be a good guy. Last edited by slim9300; 11-26-2007 at 12:42 PM.
