IWSTI Addict since: Jul 2005 Trader Rating: (0) | I have read a least a dozen threads so far. Some say the rear clunk killer helps and others say it did not fix the problem. Here' my description of it. When engaging first gear I here a clunk in the rear. Not sure if its from the passenger rear or rear center. I also here it on deccleration to acceleration. It has been getting progressively worse over the last few months. What is the prognosis and the cure. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |

| Authorized Vendor | The klunk killer is NOT for low speed/low RPM clunks. People just aren't paying attention when they say they bought that kit, and it didn't fix that. The Klunk Killer is for the HIGH RPM/HARD shifts that cause the rear diff to slam around in its mount. |

| Junior STI Driver | Backing up could be a strut clunk. But for the record, there's also the low speed throttle clunk, the highspeed shift clunk, the uneven pavement or speedbump clunk, and the turn clunk. The one he was talking about was the low speed shift or throttle clunk, which can be the rear diffs too loose bushings, or the axle nuts loosening up. The highspeed clunk is also bushing related, whereas the speedbump/ turn clunk tends to be either loose strut top mounting bolts, dry strut (requiring grease on the shaft), or worn(pillowball ie-factory), dry(bushed ie-Kartboy), or loose(both) swaybar endlinks. Could always be the jack or jack accessories in the spare tire well also (obscenely obvious but often overlooked). There. I think that about covers it! |

IWSTI Addict since: Apr 2004 Trader Rating: (2) | Tighten your rear axle nuts. This thread sounds very similar to what I had. Once I got them tight clunk noise went away. It happens. Easy/cheap fix. At least start with that before you buy anything. Actually, I think you need to buy new axle nuts but can't recall at the moment. It is under warranty if you are not past that so it is at least worth a look IMO. Either way, it is a cheap fix. This ad is not endorsed by this member. Please register or login to hide this ad. |
