...unless it's tubular aluminum where it derives strength from it's shape. of all of the one-piece designs, i do like this one the best. i agree with whoever said it seemed to be inspired by the gt spec units - only integrated into a single unit. i'd consider this myself as long as the weight penalty for the chromoly wasn't too significant. i'd still keep the ladder and fender braces.

edit: i originally said, if he added a few cross braces at the front and sides to get that extra 45 degree angular support as the gt spec units. i went back and looked at the pics again and it actually looks pretty good as is. the welds look beautiful from here. if he charges 600. for this piece it is worth every penny.

I said it over on NASIOC and I'll say it here...if this thing comes to market and has a decent, well designed undertray to help with airflow under the car I'm all over it.

the guy that made those is in the part of Utah that was/is underwater due to flooding. He's got bigger things on his mind right now, but I have not forgotten this.

Nothing will happen. This thing will not just shear all the bolts, even being in single shear as they are, and drop off. Those bolts are strong...very strong. They are engineered to not shear off in a collision. I have seen a few crashed chromoly tubular frames in my FSAE days and never did I see quality bolts shear prior to the tubes.

Also, how thick are these tubes that are being used??

Bump for this subframe and for the quick return to normal of your man in Utah. Hope things are getting better for him.

This thing looks excellent. The M-1 subframe brace made a SHOCKING improvement on the road-course, this looks to be at least as good if not better.

My vote goes to CrMo also, it would have to be HUGE to be stiff enough out of Al... it looks pretty good as is. This guys doesn't happen to be certain J.R. jr. does he?
