well i seriously doubt subaru will release a RWD car. they are too proud of "all Subarus provide the safety and control of AWD"

also i seriously doubt they would put a tranny proven to handle 500+HP on a 220 HP motor, to costly. No they will lighten it up and use thinner gears to save on cost.

Light-years ahead? I think any engine with variable valve timing and DFI is pretty state of the art. Which one of Hondas super advenced rocketships has DFI?

doesn't have to be AWD, it won't sport a subaru logo on it.
i think there will be a small turbo in there.

I think the article referenced the 2.0l motor. Which, if I'm remembering correctly, is much rev happier and hits 8k stock. I'm pretty sure that's the motor in the JDM STi and is a truly great engine. The word I heard is that the 2.5l is sold elsewhere in the world to hit emission regulations. Direct injection on that little motor revving over 8k would not give me any doubts about 220hp. And what great fun that powerplant would be.

If they can really make a car that is less than 3000 lbs, rwd and with that zinger of a motor, they will practically invent a market segment. What else would we even compare to that car? A lotus elise?

Sounds like a GREAT car to me........if they can make it less than 3000 lbs and have it meet emission regs for that engine.

Putting an already developed transmission is more cost effective than developing a new one, so in that respect I see why they might use the STI's 6-speed. However, the final gear would have to be different, otherwise the ratios wouldn't make a fun drive... Also, I read that there were some rumors that the non-AWD version would be a Scion, and that the Subaru version would be AWD...

Honestly, I'll be happy with either. It's the potential to cost ratio that I like and am eagerly looking forward to.

I know we have seen these pics for a while, but I like it. Not that I would trade my suby, but if something were to happen to it, I would consider this. If something did happen to my Suby, I would hope the engine and computer would be fine and Id do the 2.5 swap

6 speed STI tranny most likely means direct swap!

If the car actually makes it to 2,800 lbs and rwd/awd I'm sold. I bet by the time it reaches production we'll see that number closer to 3,400.
