Default Quick question for auto-x guys

I've got a Snell M2005 helmet... just wondering if these are generally permitted or not for auto-x events.

I used it at one track event but they told me i needed the SA2005 next time.

thanks in advance.

Probably fine for auto-x...going 30-60 around cones in a parking lot is -MUCH- different than doing 110 through a chicane. They probably just want to see any sort of shell on your head.

I think he needs a definitive answer. "Probably" can cost you a day of racing.

Snell 1995 (SA95, M95, or K98) or newer labeled helmets are approved for use.
This is a minimum standards for use in
RallyCross, other approved helmets are:

1.
British Standards: BS 6658-85 type A/FR, including all amendments.

2. SFI Foundation, Inc; SFI Spec 31.1

http://www.scca.com/documents/Rally%20Rules/2007rxRules.pdf

go to page 22, section P.

I know it's not where your going for your event. But hey, I just want a downpipe.

Its not a matter of whether the helmet is adequate or not, its a matter of whether the helmet will pass the tech inspection on your car. As part of the tech inspection , the inspector checks the helmets and your helmet needs to meet the requirements of the rules. Most clubs have loaner helmets if yours doesn't meet the requirements. Oddly enough, many motorcycle helmets don't meet the requirements.

from the 2008 rulebook, page 33 section 4.3.1:

Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on
course: All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding
Snell Foundation standards (SA, K, or M), or SFI standards
31.1A, 31.2A, 41.1A, or 41.2A are acceptable. Helmets meeting
British spec BS6658-85 type A/FR are also acceptable.

yeah, many just have a DOT rating - while it may be a perfectly fine helmet, it needs the Snell-M rating for autox.
