2nd again at Auto-X keep losing to WRX HELP! PICS

Well had a double weekend at my local SCCA meet. I placed Second in rookie class again. You can see my mods list. I keep losing to a WRX with very little mods. I believe he is running Falkens I know they are not slicks but look close to them. I think thats whats getting me. Im running street tires Re-01. Im always losing by .500 to 1 second all the time. He's out driving you. You can spend alot of money trying to get your car faster when in autox the driver is the biggest part of the equation. If he is on falkens then you have better tires than him.

While you could go get r-comps they will not help your driving and they can give you bad habits.

When did wrx's get put in stu? Are you sure he's not in an sti?

They are both in the Rookie class. That's why we know its the driver.

I just looked at you Mod list. How long does your local region let you stay in the "Rookie" class? I think your car might be in SM with some of those parts. SM is a very competitive race compound class.

If you put R-Comps on your car it bumps you to A Stock so you and your rival wouldn't be in the same SCCA class even if you'd both be in the novice class locally. Another thing to consider is that R-Comps make your car drive totally different and some like it, some don't then add to that the fact that you can cook a set of R-Comps in one event if your not careful or don't know what your doing.

IMO,
If there is no Evo school in your area any time soon attend more autocross events in your area and take a lot of rides with people.
Seat time will help you more than anything else when your first starting out.

You shouldn't need anything besides the skills to beat a WRX in STU with a Stock STi

How many Auto-X's have you done? Thats quite a list of competitors in your class. To come in 2nd by margins is quite an accomplishment. Keep at it and study the areas where you think you could have improved on the course. Get that "2nd place is 1st looser" mentality out of your head. You were up against, an EVO, an M3 and they scored well below you. Its not the car or the tires, its the experience. Congrats on your placement on track day.

Your mods as listed put you in to atleast BSP

COBB RAD SHROUD: I don't think this is STU legal.
ACCESSPORT STAGE 2: I know this is not STU legal if you do not have an STU map that does not effect the boost map.
DBA ROTORS: If these are the 2 piece rotors they would bump you out of BSP and put you in to SM if your Accessport doesn't have a STU map.
2piece rotors are allowed in STU but not BSP.

Everything else is okay for STU
Take off the shroud and get a legal map and your setup will be STU legal

If you don't want to get an STU map and don't have 2 piece rotors your car should be in BSP.

FWIW,
My pro tuned STU map is more powerful than the off the shelf stage 2 map Cobb has.

Yep, the new WRXs have 2.5L in them, and they would have normally been in STX. However, you can not have a 2.5L and a turbo in STX.

^What they said. With your mods it's enough to kill a WRX, it's the driver. I usually win my class in STU locally, but a nationally competitive driver in a 2.5i would probably kick my ass. Find an AutoX school. There's no shame in second place, it's better than third.
