everyone thinks they know how to drive but autocross is a brutal driving test. Small differences in technique get magnified and become the difference. You will hear a lot of people repeat "slow in, fast out" as if its supposed to mean something to you. But it needs some translation. Slow in doesn't mean lolly-gag into the corner, it means brake more than you think and a little sooner than you think; get the car settled down into the corner so you are in control of the turn. Enter the corner too fast and you will end up plowing through the corner to bleed off speed and it will take a lot of time to settle the car. Slow in means tha car is under control through the entry of the corner. You can add power immediately if you brake too much, because the car is under control. And you can power out of the corner sooner for the fast out portion of the mantra. Slaloms are the next challenge, but basically tight and tidy is best - learning to stay tidy and avoid cones at the same time is the trick that takes practice.

let me know if this helps :-)

Driver mod is best. The four most important things in autox:
1) look ahead
2) slow down to go fast
3) look ahead
4) look farther ahead

Looking ahead is hard to do, as the things closest to you appear to be coming at you quickest, so they draw your attention. Good luck, and also, class yourself correctly, you don't want to have a reputation as someone who bends or breaks the rules.

Get some Kuhmo V710's...that will make up some serious time.

Also, like the other said, seat time is big. Some guys can just drive the crap out of their cars.
