Default Your autocross results for 2008?

I'll start...

BMWCCA Event #2
La Grave Field - Fort Worth, TX
Class Y
3rd out of 9 drivers

Today was a great day for autocrossing. The course was a little too tight and too slow in places for my tastes. But we got 8 runs each, which is what I love about BMWCCA. And after the first 4 runs I was holding 1st place in Y class. Then later in the day when we got another 4 runs some of my closer competition started driving better. And in the end I was beaten by a couple of good experienced drivers: one in a Miata with R-compounds (2nd) and another in a modified Toyota MR2 Turbo (1st). I was 0.9 seconds behind the 1st place time. And my brother drove his Z06 today as well. This particular location is the only location I've ever beaten him and I managed to do it again today by about a second. His car has issues on tight courses with low-grip surfaces like what we had today.

It was a fun day though, and I felt like I drove reasonably well considering it was the first event for me in 6 months. I also felt like I was looking ahead and seeing the course quite well, and I was using pretty good hand positioning. I just needed to be smoother and needed to ease up a bit and drive smarter through some of the tighter corners. And I'm not exaggerating when I say that the course was really, really tight in places. It must have been designed by a Miata driver. Anyway, I'll get 'em next time.

Here are the results...

North Western Ohio Region
Event #1
Car: 2006 Impreza STi
Class: Street Mod.
Place: 5th out of 15. Trophy Spot.

Other: 7 of 15 had Race Tires. I beat three of them on the Azenis. Looking to get another set of rims and R tires myself sometime this summer. Good for another 2 secs, would put me in 2nd this last event.

Great Event

My results so far:

TSSCC Event #1
STU: 1st
Index: 1st (on All-Seasons!!)
This event was cold and rained the entire day. Was pretty miserable but the results made up for it.

CRSCCA Event #1
STU: 2nd
Index: 24th
This was sunday after my index win. I used up all my talent for the weekend in the rain the day before. Coned my best run. Frustrating.

MKE SCCA #1
STU: 1st
Index: 28th
I messed around with some setup things at this event. I wasn't as concerned as I am not going to run the whole season. Also not a good subie course, lots of long steady state corners and places to understeer.

BMWCCA event #3
Grayson County Airport
2nd place in Y class out of 5 drivers

Well today was one of those days where I put together a run that was far better than I expected I could do. Actually, that has never happened to me before so it was really a great feeling. The day was split up into 4 morning runs, and 4 afternoon runs.

In the morning, I improved slightly with each run. And by my 4th run I was afraid I was approaching my talent wall, a point where I just couldn't improve much more. Then I rode in my main competition's car, an MR2 with a Toyota Solara V6 in it. He's a good driver and he had the course figured out better than I had. So that helped me. Then I reviewed my runs from earlier in the day by replaying them on my camcorder.

So when I went back out in the afternoon I had a good idea of where I can make up some time. With any corner that precedes a long straight it is absolutely crucial that you carry as much exit speed as possible through there. Maybe that's obvious, but I approached the next 4 runs with that mentality, and what a pay off! I improved by 4.5 seconds! And by the end of the day I came very close to beating the MR2 driver (just 0.2 seonds slower). But I've never been so happy to come in 2nd. And I was able to beat a Cayman S today so that's a plus.

Here's the video...

WNY-SCCA Event #1
ECC-N
STX Class

7th out of 15.

Others: 5 of the guys who beat me are chairpersons on the SCCA board, and have been autocrossing for ~20 years. The other 2 that beat me are 2 of the guys' sons. The closest person behind me was 3 seconds.

It was my first time with the new suspension, so I had to feel the car out. It was about 60 degrees, but we had 40 mph gusts, so it felt like 31 degrees. It was also dark and gloomy, so the tires weren't sticking.
