seems like an external waste gate is fine in SM per 16.1 D.: "D. Drivetrain and related components (induction, ignition, fuel
systems, etc.) are unrestricted except for the following limitations:..." and none of the following restrictions mention waste gates.

If all your other mods are SM legal the EWG itself will not bump you out of SM

Yep, just be sure all your other mods really ARE SM-legal!
There's a ton of stuff that is pretty common for modded Subies that ain't allowed;
ALK
non-stock bumper beam (i.e. FMIC!)
non-stock trunk
non-stock subframe
CL X-brace
stripped interior

THese are all on my "Want" list, but I hesitate to do them... Ah, hell, I'm probably heading to XP anyway... Heh!
(where I will get slaughtered, running against a 1600 lb Porsche locally, booo!)
