I'm going to change or get my oil changed in the next few days and then I'll definately be ready to go to the track again. Just dont want to push it hard being that I'm overdue.

Its so easy man, like 4 12mm bolts, 4plastic clips, 1 17mm oil drain and a filter. Takes all of 20 mins.

Yea, I'll probably do it tomorrow I guess. What did you put in yours? I think I remember you said 5w30, but what brand? Fully synthetic?

I did mine last week at the 500 mile mark. I plan to do another at 1000 and then every 3k thereafter.

There is a plastic panel on the '05's...not sure on the '04. I didn't drop the plastic panel until after I drained the oil (mistake) Better to drop the panel first. Makes it a ton easier to get to the filter. The dutz fasteners on the panel pop out easy if you push at them from the side with a screw driver. I figured this out after waisting time trying to pull them out with pliers!! I'm still using dino oil during break in (Castrol GTX 5W-30).

With all this said, I get coupons for Suby oil change for $21-22 bucks. If I add up my costs (5 Qts of oil = $10, filter and compression gasket for drain plug = $ 9, my labor $ 50/hr.......... the dealer coupon is looking pretty good.

I know, better to do it yourself, blah, blah, blah. But I'm thinking our local dealership is pretty good considering how many of them that work there actually drive Subies. You guys had any problems with them? ~Karl

Well I went last night. Some guy dumped oil on the track, it took them 20 minutes to clean up the track - just in time for the rain to start.

Result - 45 minutes drive there and 45 minutes back, 30 minute wait, and 0 runs. Really, I'm freaking done with this place for a couple of weeks, I'm soooo pissed that I can't even go back there.

I gotta think that a track with corners has got to be more fun. If it wasn't looking like a surf day tomorrow I was planning on hitting some back roads....still not broken in....820 miles on clock....almost there!~Karl

Man that crush gasket for the drain should run you $.10 or maybe $.50 but no way should you be paying $9 for a simple crush gasket. With that I rather do the work myself, and save teh extra 30-50 labor they charge. Once you do it 2 or 3 times youll be able to walk right through it. Now youll know that your car had its oil changed properly, and always flush out the system with a clean quart before pluging the oil drain.

So you buy 6 quarts and run one of them through as a flush, then cap it and put the other 5 in? I never would have though to do that. Oh well, all this talk motivated me, I'm doing mine today.

Well the car holds 4.2. SO yes I buy that 6pack and run one through, fill it up with 4 and top it off with usually 1/4 of the 5th bottle.

Oh, I guess I should have waited for you to post again. I thought it held 4.8 quarts so I bought 6 quarts, ran 1 quart through capped it and poured in the other 5, thinking that .2 quarts wasnt too bad to go over. Haha.
